Counseling and Psychological Services ("CAPS") is proud to be a department within the Division of Student Affairs. The Psychologist's primary role involves the delivery of clinical services to IU students using Counseling and Psychological Services. Clinical services include individual, couples, group, and crisis counseling.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Assists with reducing stigma and stereotypes that discourage minority students from seeking counseling.
• Collaborates with other members of CAPS' multi-disciplinary staff and the multidisciplinary IU Health Center team.
• Provides outreach and consultation services to the University community, particularly those directed toward undeserved students.
• Works in all these domains is expected to be multi-culturally informed and consistent with the learning objectives of the Division of Student Services.
• Conducts individual intake assessments, 3-5 per week as agreed upon with Director.
• Provides direct clinical services to IUB students - individual, group, and couples counseling.
• Manages individual caseload to incorporate new clients in an ongoing manner.
• Documents telephone and face to face consultations with IUB faculty, staff, family members, and any others pertaining to students of concern, who may or may not be CAPS clients.
• Participates in peer chart reviews.
• Supervises predoctoral interns in their varied clinical roles at CAPS, including their supervision of practicum students.
• Sits on Training Committee (when supervising).
• Participates in intern recruitment and selection process.
• Conducts intern educational seminars, as requested by Director of Training.
• Maintains accurate, timely clinical notes, following CAPS Quality Improvement committee standards regarding such things as documentation of diagnosis, substance use, threats to self and others, and treatment planning.
• Serves as liaison to a campus group, as requested by CAPS Outreach Coordinator, consulting with the group regarding educational programs, students of concern and consultations with faculty and administrators.

General Responsibilities

• Provides direct clinical service including evaluation and testing to identify cognitive difficulties that may impede the patient's normal functions.
• Provides individual, group, and relationship counseling.
• Provides crisis intervention and online counseling.
• Documents clinical activities according to standards, procedures, and policies.
• Provides individual clinical supervision to counselors/psychologists in training.
• Facilitates group case consultation for counselors/psychologists in training.
• Provides direct observation and video review of clinical sessions to provide feedback.
• Reviews and co-signs all clinical documentation for supervised positions.
• Participates in community outreach programs regarding mental health.

EDUCATION

Required

• Ph.D. in psychology from an APA accredited program

Preferred

• 2 years postdoctorate

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 1 year of postdoctoral clinical service under supervision of a licensed psychologist
• Completion of a predoctoral internship that meets licensure standards for the State of Indiana

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

• Licensed Psychologist must be licensed in the State of Indiana or be eligible for licensure within 180 days from date of hire

This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
