Vocational Rehabilitation Associate - Yang-Tan Institute

The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for an Vocational Rehabilitation Associate - Extension Associate in the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in the Extension/Outreach Division.

Our Team:

The Yang-Tan Institute (YTI) conducts research and provides continuing education and technical assistance on many aspects of disability in the workplace. Researchers and practitioners at YTI have helped companies, labor organizations, government agencies, schools, and communities throughout the United States and abroad to accommodate and integrate individuals with disabilities. Our team consults with business and industry, and with policy makers, educators, disability advocates, and rehabilitation practitioners.

What you will do:

This position provides a range of training, training curriculum content development, organizational development, programming, and administration primarily in the focus area of vocational rehabilitation, trauma-informed practice, community rehabilitation employment program services, workforce development systems, student and youth transition, and policies and practices regarding vocational rehabilitation and employment services.

Extension Associate is a full-time, academic, non-tenure track, term position with an initial appointment through March 31, 2026. The position may be re-appointed based on recommendations by the appropriate YTI Leadership and Senior Associate Dean for Outreach, as well as available funding and work.

What we need:

• Master's degree in related subject matter expertise (vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, mental health, industrial and labor relations, employment or labor law, human resources/management/business, organizational behavior/change, economics, occupational medicine/workplace safety and health, education, diversity/inclusion, or related field).
• Possession of a currently active certified rehabilitation counseling (CRC) credential.
• Experience teaching adult learners.
• Minimum of two years teaching related courses and/or training curricula in college-level or professional environment (online and/or in person), conducting training to relevant target audience, and/or conducting research in the focus area.
• Experience with developing and delivering high quality synchronous and asynchronous college-level courses or professional trainings.
• Experience directly working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in a state vocational rehabilitation or a related employment services agency.
• Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
• Periodic travel required.

You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:

• PhD in related subject matter expertise.
• Three to five years of experience directly working with individuals with disabilities.
• Three to five years of work experience as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for a state vocational rehabilitation agency, preferably in New York State.
• Minimum of three years of experience creating and delivering distance learning.
• Demonstrated relevant professional leadership and network development at the state, regional, national, and/or international areas in relevant professional, trade, policy, or public networks.
• Work experience in or in collaboration with a community-based employment services provider agency for individuals with disabilities.
• Professional credentials in disciplinary area, such as appropriate state and national licensure, certifications, etc.
• Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in the focus area (e.g., articles in peer-reviewed journals, articles in trade publications, practitioner journals, research and project reports, informational brochures, policy briefs, etc.).
• Minimum one to three years of successful grant writing and grant management experience.
• One to three years of experience working directly with students and/or youth with disabilities, supervising staff who directly support students/youth, or teaching classes or providing professional development on supporting students/youth with disabilities.

ILR School hiring range for this title is $69,500.00 - $85,000.00 commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location.
