Job Description
Job Summary
The Digital Design Assistant plays an important role within the College Relations team, which strengthens the reputation and relationships of Smith College. This position's primary responsibility is to assist with and collaborate in the maintenance and development of the college's public-facing institutional digital content. They assist in creating and/or sourcing graphics, images, animations and forms for use on websites and other web-based applications
Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Essential Functions
Content Maintenance and Production: 70%
Respond to a variety of web-related requests from college academic and administrative departments, updating content on websites with submissions from clients. Update and maintain time-sensitive material and monitor pages for outdated material, inaccuracies, broken links and compliance with policies on standards and accessibility. Assist with the remediation of the website and digital documents to meet accessibility requirements. Assist faculty and staff college-wide in their use of the Drupal web editor. Keep up-to-date with best practices in website navigation and usability, emerging web delivery methods, accessibility, social media and other trends.
Development and Design: 30%
Assist in designing and creating new sections of the Smith website to further communications and outreach initiatives, while enforcing accessibility standards and existing brand standards. Design and create high-quality, on-brand graphics for the college's digital needs in a timely manner (including animation, a plus). Develop and maintain complex web-based forms for clients and departments.
Other Functions
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Skills
Ability to author in CSS and HTML.
Skilled in Drupal preferred.
Animation and illustration skills are a plus.
Photography skills are a plus.
Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. After Effects skills are a plus.
Excellent creative and design abilities showcasing inventive and compelling work.
Familiarity with accessibility best practices.
High standard of accuracy and attention to detail; strong organizational skills.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Positive work ethic; good relationship management skills and a good team player.
Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
Creative, enthusiastic and strategic with an ability to suggest improvements.
Flexibility to revise ideas with input from team members and other college partners.
