POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary role of this position includes teaching a world history curriculum, based on characteristics of early civilizations, to 5th grade students including historical thinking, reading, writing and research skills. Strong research and writing skills are key in this role, as well as a willingness to collaborate with other humanities teachers and librarians to consistently teach these skills to students. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in education, preferably middle school history education, and a masters degree is preferred. Passion and/or experience for project-based and differentiated learning and interest in working in a student-centered, collaborative, educational environment is beneficial. Experience in Google Suite for Education is preferred. Candidates should have an interest in being part of a community that strives to create access, equity and belonging for all.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach five (5) sections of the Foundations of Civilization course to all Grade 5 students.
Collaborate with the History Department to analyze and review curriculum.
Partner with the other grade-level academic classes by teaching reading, writing and research skills
Serve as a Grade 5 advisor.
Sponsor a MS level club once a week during the school day.
Participate in grade-level team meetings
Champion and assist in implementing the School’s access, equity, and belonging initiatives
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
four-year college degree and should relate well to adolescent girls
teaching experience in 5th grade and/or Middle School
strong interpersonal and communication skills and a passion for the subject
ability to coach a sport (preferred)

The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
