Job Description:

A tutor is a vital link between our CSTEP and STEP students, Academic Advisors, Assistant Director, Associate Director and the Director. The tutor functions as a student advocate and role model, and assists program participants to achieve both academic and professional success.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Providing academic assistance to STEP students one-on-one and in small groups on assignments, studying, reviewing and learning STEM content.
• Motivating students collectively and individually to achieve academic success through encouraging, advising, and planning strategies, while supporting STEP philosophy and reflecting this in interactions with students.
• Functioning as a student advocate in all interactions with parents, family, and school constituencies.
• Fostering a program environment conducive to the academic, social, and personal development of students.
• Supporting the STEP philosophy and reflecting this in his/her interaction with students, families, staff, the community of the host institution and the greater Syracuse community.
• Handling other duties assigned by immediate supervisors.
