Under the direction of the Director of International Student Services, the International Services Coordinator will provide support for the international admission process to recruit and admit international students to the campus community and serves as the lead systems administrator for all international admission processes and procedures. The Coordinator will also serve as an immigration advisor and Designated Signing Officer (DSO) for the university.
As a condition of employment, Duquesne University requires all new employees —full-time and part-time, including adjunct faculty—to get a COVID-19 vaccine and provide proof of their vaccination upon commencement of employment.
New employees requesting a religious or documented medical exemption from the vaccine must complete and submit a Duquesne University exemption request form for review and approval. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with recruitment logistics, including communication with prospective students and contacts in schools overseas.
Assisting the Director and Assistant Director of International Admissions with processing acceptances and scholarship letters as well as evaluating admission applications when needed.
Assisting the Director and Assistant Director/International Student Advisor with immigration documentation and database management specific to international students.
Serves as an Immigration Advisor Designated Signing Officer (DSO) for immigration documents.
Assists Director and Immigration Advisor with aspects of immigration process, including assistance with mailings of immigration documents and student support services, as needed. Serves as a lead on particular projects involving international student cultural programming, such as the New Student Orientation, Cultural Ambassadors Program, American Traditions Series, and other information sessions and workshops geared toward international student support.
Participate in international student recruitment travel, when necessary.
Assists with the creation and editing of the Center for Global Engagement website and other publications and communications.
Assists with general office management.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
1-2 years of progressively responsible experience. Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferably in an area related to education, international affairs and/or communication.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Interest in the field of International Education in general and an appreciation for intercultural communication and diverse cultures.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues, students, the campus community, and the general public.
Experience in clerical work, including proficiency in automated database systems, record keeping, filing, and communication skills.
Ability to use considerable independent judgment in implementing tasks and supervising other office support staff.
Ability and willingness to participate in international recruitment travel and events, as needed.
Strong quantitative skills: budgeting, statistical and spreadsheet software Ability to learn immigration rules and regulations and apply them in appropriate situations.
Ability and willingness to offer input where the functions of the office are concerned.
Knowledge of the University’s policies, especially in relation to international students.
Willingness to participate in professional development.
