Summer at Lakeside is currently recruiting for a Makerspace for our Investigative Learning Camp, an academic summer camp designed for students entering grades 3-8 . The Investigative Learning Camp (ILC) offers students the opportunity to take classes covering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) -based topics. All courses encourage creative play and hands-on learning; courses are project-based and do not assume students have any previous knowledge of the subject matter. No homework is assigned. The makerspace teacher will teach elementary-aged (Gr.3-4) students in the morning (8:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m.) and middle school students in the afternoons (12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.). Each week of camp will have a different focus (moving machines, flying machines, sound structures, etc.). This class will be taught out of our makerspace classroom, which is equipped with a variety of tools, including a 3D printer and laser cutter. Classes run July 10 – August 4. There will be a mandatory orientation meeting on Thursday, July 6. Specific Responsibilities:

1. Create an inclusive and culturally responsive curriculum that encourages creativity, collaboration, risk-taking, and critical thinking
2.  Create organized and engaging lesson plans for each day
3. Order and organize supplies necessary
4. Supervise and instruct a diverse group of students that have different educational backgrounds and experiences
5. Supervise the assigned counselor, who serves as a classroom teaching assistant
6. Provide individual support and adapt different teaching strategies for students needing additional instruction

Requirements and Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
2. Prior experience working with a diverse student population and demonstrated equity and inclusion mindset. Candidates should be aware of their own identity and biases; candidate actively works to create an inclusive classroom environment. 
3. A bachelor’s degree 
4. Teaching, tutoring, or coaching experience with a diverse group of elementary or middle-school students 
5. Experience teaching, tutoring, or coaching students in engineering, makerspace, robotics, or a related field 
6. Experience with inclusive and multicultural curriculum development 
7. Excellent communication and organizational skills 
8. Positive and collaborative attitude 
9. Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks. 
10. Candidates must provide proof of vaccination and booster to human resources. Candidates requesting a medical and/or religious exemption should reach out to Human Resources. 
11. First Aid and CPR certification obtained before July 10, 2023

Compensation and Benefits The stipend range for this position is $7,850 - $8,000. Lunch is included. The course may only run if enough students register. Enrollment will remain open until June 1. If the number of students enrolled is too small to run by June 1, or if the course is canceled for any reason, the stipend will not be paid.
