CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, non-profits, and public service. The part-time mental health counselor (up to 15 hours a week for the 15 week semester) will provide counseling support to graduate, undergraduate and certificate program students (many of whom are returning to school after an extended time away) as well as provide training and support for our advisement staff around mental health.
Key duties include but are not limited to:
Provide short-term individual counseling to students (establishing and developing a relationship with students in need)
Provide crisis intervention for emergency situations
Liaise and consult with SLU student services staff and faculty around mental health; plan actions steps (academically as well as emotionally/psychologically), and work on building a support system for students
Give referrals to students if long term care is needed
Offer group counseling/support groups in areas of stress management, effective communication, sleep, and healthy relationships
Develop crisis intervention & action plan training for staff responding to a crisis
Give staff and faculty training on identifying and supporting students in distress
Deliver and help promote wellness workshops on a variety of topics
NOTES:
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and on-site in the office.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
An MSW orMaster???s degree in counseling and a New York State license as a mental health practitioner (psychology, social work, or mental health counseling).
Three or more years of experience in the field
The preferred candidate will haveexperience counseling in a college setting (particularly with adults retur ning to school).
Ability to work a flexible shift, including evening hours.
COMPENSATION
Hourly rate commensurate with education and experience, between $47.42/hr - $63.85/hr.
