Department Information
Indiana University's Office of Online Education (OOE) is responsible for protecting and maintaining the academic integrity of an IU degree, facilitating collaborative opportunities presented by online education, and utilizing IU's scale, resources, reputation, and diversity of offerings to expand online education offerings to students located in Indiana, as well as nationally and internationally. OOE oversees growth and development of more than 200 online degree and certificate programs that to date enroll in excess of 10,000 students annually.
The goal of OOE's Enrollment Management and Student Services team is to increase enrollment and retention through engaging marketing & recruitment efforts, build and support frictionless admissions processes, and deliver proactive student-first services that meet students where they are and support them in getting where they want to be.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Reports to the Director for Enrollment Management and Student Services.
Mentors, serves, and leads a team of undergraduate advisors dedicated to connecting IU Online students with information specific to course of study needs and curricular planning assessment to encourage informed decisions for offering, enrolling in, and completing educational courses and course sequences.
Provides operational leadership, direction, and guidance to meet team objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/ multi-phase advising and student services, retention, and engagement driven initiatives.
Coordinates large-scale academic advising projects with wide audiences in support of student services and academic initiatives. Manages high level assignments and allocation of advising resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams.
Defines and embodies academic advising methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority advising projects/initiatives.
Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
General Responsibilities
Provides operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define academic advising methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high-priority academic advising projects/initiatives.
Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase academic advising initiatives.
Manages high-level assignments and allocation of academic advising resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale academic advising projects with campus or system-wide implications.
Makes budgetary recommendations and proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry academic advising standards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
Works collaboratively with other academic advising leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering, and advisory committees; acts as consultant to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to academic advising.
Resolves or escalates academic advising related complaints.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Master's degree in higher education student affairs, counseling, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
4 years in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, or related field
1 year of management experience or demonstrates leadership of a project or people
Preferred
Experience in a student-focused, higher education environment is highly desired

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Employees with an approved remote work arrangement should plan to attend in-person business events and meetings, held 4-6 times/year (subject to change). Candidate proximity to south-central and central Indiana is desirable.

Bloomington, IN.
This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
Advertised Salary
$70,000.00 - $75,000.00 a year.
