Maryvale Preparatory School is seeking a full-time Director to lead the school’s evolving diversity, inclusion, and belonging programs and office. Reporting to the President, the Director will be a spiritually grounded leader who views the work of inclusion in tandem with the Sisters Of Notre Dame de Namur (SNDdeN) and Catholic social teaching. As a member of the school’s Leadership Team, the Director works with students, school leaders, faculty, staff, families, and members of the Board of Trustees to promote justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging throughout the Maryvale community. The Director will research, develop, and implement ways to foster these attributes, while inspiring Maryvale’s faculty, staff, and students. Partnering with other school leaders the Director is called upon to lead and build a community rooted in the Maryvale Way, based on respect, dignity, and inclusivity.
The focus of the office is to support upper and middle school students, faculty, staff, and families by developing and implementing strategies to advance work that builds and maintains a campus community that is welcoming to all and to which all enjoy a sense of belonging.
Responsibilities:
Strategically develops initiatives and plans, organizes, and manages of all Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion endeavors, tracking successful efforts while highlighting best practices and identifying areas that need strengthening.
Serve as an advisor to the President, Leadership Team, faculty, and staff.
In partnership with academic leaders, assist in designing cultural competency learning opportunities for all constituent groups including curriculum integration.
Coordinate programs for educating the Maryvale community (faculty, staff, students, parents) on inclusion and effective ways to address classroom and individual challenges around justice, social differences, and inequality.
Support the Advancement, Admission, and Communications offices with integration of J.E.D.I. competencies in their outreach; and collaborate with the counseling department in providing academic, emotional, and social support, while building community, trust and allyship for students and families of all backgrounds.
Introduce new strategies and lead senior Leadership, HR, and Admissions Offices to effectively recruit, welcome, and retain faculty, staff, and students who reflect the broad diversity of a global society.
Assist faculty and staff affinity group leaders develop and implement student engagement opportunities to build community, understanding, and allyship.
Partner with the Board J.E.D.I. Committee and serve as a resource for the Board of Trustees in integrating multicultural and belonging awareness into their stewardship of the school.
Identify, cultivate, and leverage an external network of resources and contacts who can be called upon for counsel, connections, and information to support justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred in Human Resources, Academia, or related field and direct experience in directing and managing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
Documented Diversity, Equity and Inclusion certificate or coursework required.
Commitment to the faith-based foundation of Maryvale, in recognition of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur charism, Hallmarks and the mission and vision of the school.
Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to connect with and relate to various groups of people.
Significant experience in a leadership role(s) in an academic institution, ideally including diversity and equity work, curricular program development, and faculty/staff development.
Proven experience with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion analytics including how to drive impact and effectively manage change.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, alumnae and Board leadership.
