The Psychology Department currently has 30 academic FTE, an administrative staff of nine, and makes several temporary academic staff appointments each year. The Psychology Department has over 2200 undergraduate students declared and proposed in the Cognitive Science and Psychology majors and 69 Psychology PhD graduate students. The Psychology Department Faculty and Staff are all currently housed in Social Sciences 2. The undergraduate advising team consists of the two full-time Undergraduate Advisors, Undergraduate Program Coordinator and the Field Study Program Director.

Applies professional concepts to independently provide prescriptive advice on academic policies and procedures for the Psychology Department, including Cognitive Science and Psychology major requirements, and all aspects of course requirements for degree completion. Under the general direction of the Administrative Manager, the Undergraduate Advising Team has full programmatic responsibility for the administration of the Psychology Undergraduate Advising Program.
Budgeted Salary: $26.87 - $30.84 / Hourly. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary above the posted range. Applies professional concepts to independently provide prescriptive advice and assistance to students on academic and degree progress and major requirements for the department.
Monitors and evaluates students' completion of academic requirements.
Recruit, train and supervise student peer advisors. Interview, hire, train and supervise student workers.
Identifies student needs for programs and services and refers students to non-academic resources as appropriate.
Applies articulated courses to program / degree requirements and certifies degree completion.
Advises on moderately complex issues such as multiple degrees, or withdrawal from the University.
Advises department on scheduling needs for student course progression and requirements completion.
Communicates and exchanges information with other units of the organization and makes referrals to help students with their academic program (e.g., health service, disabled students program, Colleges / Schools, transfer center, academic departments).
Provides information to students on programs with special, clearly articulated eligibility requirements such as honors programs, awards, fellowships, scholarships and advanced level courses.
Advocate student interests; recommend academic policies and procedures both to CUA/Committee on Undergraduate Affairs, Department Chair and Division.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving.
Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original idea to solve problems.
Strong verbal communication skills, including active listening.
Strong written communication skills.
Ability to multi-task.
Proven communication and interpersonal skills, with faculty and students, with individuals and large

Advanced degree in Psychology or related discipline or equivalent experience.

Familiarity with campus programs, administrative units and range of student services.
Experience in web page construction and maintenance.
General knowledge of the UCSC campus.
Experience recruiting, interviewing, selecting and supervising student employees.
