Responsibilities
Serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the university in support of J-1 scholars.
Analyze and interpret data for production of visa documents for scholars as needed.
Provide support for scholar state and federal compliance.
Utilize complex database systems to facilitate document production.
Advise international scholars, employees, faculty and administrative staff on complex and sensitive immigration related matters, including decisions about appropriate immigration status options, maintenance of legal U.S. immigration status, and assistance in resolving individual employees' immigration-related problems.
Advise departments on appropriate visa status for international visiting scholars and accompanying policies and procedures.
Participate in department business process planning and execution.
Design and deliver workshops and programs that support the international scholar community.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Ability in problem identification, reasoning.
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Interpersonal skills.
Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Training:
Masters degree preferred in a related area.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
This position is exempt and paid monthly.
Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $67,000.00 - $78,000.00.
