The Chief of Staff reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and works in collaboration with the Executive Management Team to accomplish the organizations goals. This includes facilitating planning and problem-solving, acting as the CEO's representative in both internal and external settings, and supporting the CEO in the management and oversight of the agency.

Oversees, coordinates, and monitors the implementation of major projects and activities critical to the CEO’s organizational goals.
Drives performance by creating an agency-wide culture of excellence that prioritizes internal and external customer service and by facilitating outstanding collaboration amongst senior management and between divisions.
Creates and operates a reporting system that facilitates the flow of performance and operational information to the CEO from all relevant divisions. Collaborates with the CEO’s Executive Assistant to ensure the objectives for meetings the CEO attends are clear, that preparation is appropriate, and that the CEO is staffed with the materials and information required.
Collaborates with the Manager of Board Initiatives to ensure the quality of reports, memorandums, and communication to the Boards of Directors, member jurisdictions, and other external parties.
Develops and presents written/oral reports and analyses on a wide variety of complex transportation issues; prepares and presents reports, briefings, presentations, and responses for Board meetings; and stays abreast of a variety of public and non-public issues concerning Valley Metro and provides background information to the Boards.
Serves as the CEO’s representative with member jurisdictions and other external agencies, building consensus to accomplish agency goals; prepares and revises requests for information on behalf of the agency for various governmental offices and oversight agencies.
Responsible for the organization’s operating cadence; including facilitation and coordination of Executive Management Team meetings and division performance reviews.
Acts on the CEO’s behalf in providing strategic leadership to the Executive Management Team and between divisions. Partners with the Chief Human Resources Officer to align human resource initiatives with the needs of the agency to build a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Public or Business Administration or a related field and five (5) years of executive management-level experience, or directly relevant experience as advisor to CEO; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. Master's degree and experience with public transportation operations is highly desirable.
License/Certifications: Driving a motorized vehicle is an essential function of this position. Successful applicants must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
