The School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Research (OR), which has an annual operating budget of approximately $10M, acts under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Research. The program manages research space & safety, grant facilitation, evaluation program and supports other activities for the OR such as supporting investigators across the SOM and the UC Davis Main Campus. Responsibilities This position serves as one of the analysts within the SOM OR. The position reports to the Research Operations Manager and will work under general supervision of the Research Operation Manager and the Assistant Dean of Research and requires frequent interaction with the Research Operations unit. The incumbent will assist with projects such as grant data analysis, development of various analytical reports, financial analyses, and reporting. This position is responsible for providing high-level analytical and problem-solving support to the office, responsible for financial oversight, procedure development and complex budget/financial management. Provides high-level fiscal, analytical, and administrative support. Financial oversight, and pre-award grant management for complex awards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, accounting or closely related field or equivalent work experience in related field.
Financial and business management skills and experience to perform in-depth budgetary and financial analyses. Knowledge of budgetary cycles and practices. Mathematical skills sufficient to accurately calculate, manipulate and adjust data related to budgetary and financial activities.
Ability to use and understand computer software and web-based financial applications, such as Decision Support, Kuali, Aggie Budget, and other Windows-based programs.
Strong combination of analytical and quantitative skills to develop independently coherent reports and tables. Experience using advanced features of MS Excel to perform detailed analyses including Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, creating charts and graphs, databases as well as MS Office Suite programs and automated on-line financial and payroll/personnel systems.
Understanding of accounting/financial/grant policies and procedures. Knowledge of general accounting principles with diverse fund restrictions, fund accounting and research-related accounting.
Ability to use data for decision-making and perform complex cost analysis including, but not limited to, direct & indirect cost.
Analytical skills to anticipate/identify problems, perform research to resolve such problems, and develop creative solutions.
Time management and organizational skills to manage simultaneous projects and maintain a high level of productivity. Ability to meet deadlines and produce accurate tables and reports. Ability to work effectively within a team or independently in an accountable, professional, and responsible manner.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with UC Davis and UC Davis Health organizations, units, resources, and facilities.
Extensive knowledge of UC policies, procedures, and principles governing research, education, and intellectual property.
Knowledge of training grant programs and tables (NIH T32, K12), proposals, and sponsors' requests for proposals. Experience with multi-investigator applications to federal funding agencies and private foundations.
Skills and experience to manage multiple funds involving different accounting procedures such as analysis, reconciliation, projection, fiscal closing, and grant preparation. Experience developing budgets, reconciling ledgers, developing and/or adapting spreadsheets and databases.
Special Requirements
