This position has significant administrative responsibilities in support of the work of the central Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE). OUE operates under the leadership of the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education, who has broad responsibilities for campus-wide activities to improve undergraduate education, and who also oversees Admissions, Academic Support Resources (ASR), the University Honors Program (UHP), Lindahl Academic Center, Office of Undergraduate Research, Orientation and Transition Experiences, and other areas. Included in the many current OUE initiatives are: improving undergraduate retention and graduation rates, implementing the liberal education requirements, freshman seminars, curricular review, assessment of student learning, and enhancing student advising and support. This position works with the Vice Provost, Associate Dean for the University Curriculum, the OUE Director, and other OUE staff on a variety of projects, initiatives, and committee assignments. The position also interacts with the units reporting to OUE, the Provost’s Office, staff in the Twin Cities undergraduate colleges, and other campus offices.
Curriculum and Educational Policy (60%)
Work collaboratively as a key member of the OUE curricular oversight working group to identify issues, collect and analyze relevant data, develop recommendations, and implement changes.
Review and approve course changes in ECAS and academic program changes in PCAS; consult with departments on concerns and missing information. Advise the Associate Director for OUE on problem areas.
Serve as key staff support for coordination of the activities of faculty curriculum committees such as the Council on Liberal Education and/or Campus Curriculum Committee. This work includes reviewing materials, researching issues, and drafting memos, charge letters, and meeting agendas.
Coordinate course placement in partnership with key departments and facilitate an annual placement and course access update for advisors across campus.
Assist with the implementation of the Grand Challenge Curriculum and Classroom to Community Workshop. This includes:
Coordinate the new course proposal process.
Collaborate with the OUE Coordinator on the writing and distribution of the GCC newsletter.
Co-lead planning and implementation of the Classroom to Community Workshop.
Assist with policy review and revisions and the communications and implementation of educational policies. Research and respond on behalf of OUE to questions related to educational policies.
OUE Administration (40%)
Research and respond to inquiries, complaints, and formal petitions (e.g., LE and WI petitions) from undergraduate students, parents, and others. Coordinate responses and consult with other campus offices on various concerns.
Work on event development, programming, and logistics planning for OUE-wide events as needed
Support the Vice Provost and other OUE leaders related central initiatives. Support includes researching and drafting reports, editing memos and presentations; organizing information and conducting basic data analysis; providing recommendations; and representing OUE.
Assign work to undergraduate student employees in OUE as needed to accomplish various projects and maintain various systems and functions.
Perform other duties related to the operations and goals of the OUE office, as assigned.
Required Qualifications
BA/BS degree and at least six years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge in areas of responsibility related to this position, such as curriculum, educational policies, student services, registration, scheduling, and student records.
Writing and editorial skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, work independently, and collaborate.
Sound judgment and discretion; ability to deal with complex and sensitive issues appropriately and effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree.
Administrative experience at the University of Minnesota in a collegiate or central unit.
Experience with curriculum management systems such as ECAS and PCAS.
Expert user of Excel.
Experience researching and creating PowerPoint presentations for various audiences.
Knowledge of and interest in current issues related to undergraduate education.
