JOB SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of Career Engagement and Education will report to the Director of the Center for Career Exploration & Development. Will work collaboratively with the Director to ensure the creation and implementation of a comprehensive career development program. Supervises the Peer Career Advisors, including coordinating the hiring of staff, providing ongoing training and day-day guidance. Implement a comprehensive program of career development support and industry engagement. Provide career coaching and programming for students and alumni. Create and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff and student workers. Help to build on and implement the office’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging strategy and professional development framework.
POSITION/JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work in collaboration with the Director in creating, implementing and assessing the strategic vision for a comprehensive career education and development program. Conduct periodic evaluations of career development tools as necessary. Research, recommend, and implement inclusive resources, programs, and services to facilitate student preparation.
Create and coordinate the process for collecting and measuring student learning outcomes from office programs and services, and report results to stakeholders. Make recommendations to the Director for adjustment of services and programming based on findings. Collaborate with team members and campus stakeholders as needed.
Coordinate and assess Peer Career Advisor program to include hiring, training, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating student workers. Create, implement, and assess ongoing trainings and professional development opportunities.
Implement a comprehensive program of career development support and industry engagement in coordination with faculty and staff. Build relationships and partnerships with faculty, alumni, recruiters, students, staff, parents and other stakeholders to facilitate the development of an effective and robust career center. Identify and create focused interactive career activities for students within the community, that leverage the expertise of partners and stakeholders. Maintain community's content on the Career Center’s website, providing regular updates and working to ensure stakeholder contributions to the website. Coordinate and staff related employer events and other programs, determined in partnership with office staff. Respond to inquiries and recruiting needs of employers, in partnership with team members.
Create and lead workshops on a variety of career-related topics, coordinate industry guest presenters for career development programs and collaborate with stakeholders on programming needs. Coach students and alumni from diverse backgrounds, interest-areas and abilities on career goal setting, internship and job search techniques, graduate school search and application techniques, professional branding and networking, interviewing and salary negotiations. Provide feedback on career-related documents, conduct practice interviews and administer career assessment instruments. Refer students to other campus resources as appropriate.
Serve as the Ithaca College Career Center representative to Central NY Career Development Association (CNYCDA).
Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with students, alumni, staff, faculty and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive environment. Engage in creating, facilitating and participating in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
Assist in the recruitment and training of student employees in the Career Center.
Work cooperatively with faculty and administrators from across the campus regarding experiential learning options, recruiting and career development programs. Serve as the Career Center’s liaison to assigned areas of the campus community and represent the office on campus committees; participate in additional assignments as designated by the Director. Represent the office on campus committees and at professional conferences as designated by the Director. Participate in professional organizations as appropriate.
Contribute to the overall vision and mission of the department, division of Marketing & Enrollment Strategy, and College through participation in meetings, committees, goal setting and professional development opportunities.
Expand professional competence with respect to current literature and employment trends through research, professional conferences and discussion. Observe and remain current with ethical guidelines and legal precedents for client counselor relationships, student records and employment procedures. Become familiar with and function according to ethical guidelines provided by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA College Student Development International).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in counseling, student affairs, or related field preferred, and a minimum of 3 years related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience; extensive experience providing career counseling/coaching/advising and developing programming; demonstrated commitment to support, empower, and retain students from minority identity groups; ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse and welcoming environment; ability and desire to create and facilitate professional development programming for office staff and student workers related to issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging; ability to treat all people equitably and with a sensitivity and awareness to cultural difference; demonstrated ability to hold others accountable for behavior that is supportive of a community that is diverse and inclusive; experience in relationship-building with internal and external constituents; previous supervisory experience; experience in learning assessment and program evaluation; excellent interpersonal, communication, networking, and presentation skills; experience with webpage maintenance, career development software and resources, and presentation software; and flexibility to work some evenings and weekends are required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment. The incumbent will be required to use a personal computer and associated equipment as well as other office equipment used in the day-to-day operations. The incumbent may need to deliver various correspondences or other informational materials on campus requiring the ability to walk, drive or make other travel arrangements.
SALARY RANGE:
$56,000 - $63,000 annually
