The Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer reports to the Senior Director, Quality Assurance, Harvard Business School (HBS) IT. In this role, you will closely collaborate with the Technology Products Group (TPG) to ensure the functional correctness, adherence to performance and digital accessibility standards, and load tolerance of the complex, custom learning applications they build and support. Working in close partnership with subject matter experts you will be responsible for developing and executing automated tests that fully validate the build solutions. You will drive test strategy, build and improve data testing processes, and grow testing practices within the IT organization.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic quick learner who possesses superior interpersonal and communication skills, has a knack for discovering the hidden vulnerabilities in complex software products, and shows maturity, accountability, and professionalism throughout their work efforts.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with TPG software developers to establish testing strategies that simplify and support comprehensive test coverage in the software development life cycle, encourage best practices and ensure high-quality releases
Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify testable components and potential code complexity vulnerabilities
Design and implement automated tests that exercise product user interfaces and APIs
Design, build and debug automation frameworks for integration in CI/CD pipeline
Develop a deep understanding of technologies with the TPG portfolio and communicate complex technical issues to audiences of mixed experience
Lead the adoption of best practices, tools, designs, and frameworks in functional and automated testing
Serve as a trusted advisor to colleagues providing strong technical guidance that balances adherence to standards with flexibility
Assume additional responsibilities as assigned
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
The following are preferred:
Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate problems, strategy, and/or solutions to technical and non-technical audiences of all levels in the organization
Experience with Cypress, Selenium, JUnit, and AWS Distributed Load Testing
Experience with industry standard tools for assessing digital accessibility in web-based user interfaces, e.g., aXe, Lighthouse
Experience working with local and offshore teams and maintaining consistency throughout
Ability to deal constructively with problems that do not have clear solution outcomes
Ability to weigh the available options and provide decision driven data to choose the best option for the organization's needs
Proficiency in JavaScript and/or Java
Calm, composed demeanor
Working Conditions
Additional support outside of regularly scheduled hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holiday breaks, may occasionally be required

This position is approved for a 2-year term (with possibility of renewal/extension) which begins on the first day of employment.
This role is offered as a hybrid position (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA-based campus on a regular basis. Specific schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
