The Academic Counselor for the Trenchard Foundation Institute of Excellence (TFIOE) is responsible for providing comprehensive, personalized, strengths-based retention support for assigned scholars in the Nebraska College Preparatory Academy (NCPA). They will be responsible for coordinating individual and group activities that support students in developing identity, building coping skills to effectively manage psychosocial stressors, and creating social networks. The position is also responsible for the selection, training, supervision, and implementation of the NCPA current student mentor program. Additionally, this position collaborates with multiple departments, on and off campus, to provide programming to support a sense of community and support for first-generation, low-income, and/or ethnic-minority students. This position does require evening and weekends and is grant-funded.

Bachelor's degree in education, sociology, family studies or related field plus one year of experience providing academic and social support to first generation, low-income, and/or ethnic-minority college students required. Experience evaluating programs and providing recommendations for improvement. Experience leading and motivating others. Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and engage with students. Knowledge of the state of Nebraska and its challenges amongst under-represented populations. Demonstrated ability to relate to first-generation, low-income, and/or minority populations. Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.

Master's degree preferred.2 or more years of experience in higher education. Understanding of the Clifton Strengths. Demonstrated ability to work independently and be a creative problem-solver. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Public speaking experience.
