Forefront Suicide Prevention is the catalyst for a social movement to save lives lost to suicide. We are considered a national thought leader developing innovative legislation and programs that can be scaled to build capacity for everyone to play a role in suicide prevention. We champion state policy and systems changes within healthcare, schools and higher education institutions, train and support a broad coalition of volunteers to provide resources in their communities, and educate media to shift the culture of this public health issue from one of stigma and silence to openness and empowerment of individuals to take action.
As a Center for Excellence housed within the UW School of Social Work, our work with schools (K-12) focuses on increasing access to comprehensive suicide prevention through systems change, collaboration, and robust training and technical assistance. Our partners currently include over 50 high schools within Washington State, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, all nine educational service districts (ESDs); we anticipate continued program growth as our program seeks to scale to a larger audience statewide.
The Forefront Suicide Prevention and the UW School of Social Work have an excellent opportunity for a full time (1.0 FTE) Program Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate the programmatic, operational, and administrative activities for our programs providing comprehensive suicide prevention in the K-12 education sector across Washington State.
The Program Coordinator position works under the direction of the Manager of Forefront’s School Based Programs and takes a primary role in coordinating programs and contracts within the K-12 Education Sector.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The continuing education coordinator serves a primary role in coordinating the administrative, operational, and programmatic components of our schools-based programing. The role is highly collaborative and will work across departments within Forefront. Duties and responsibilities will include:
Programmatic (50%): This position takes a primary role in coordinating the ongoing training and professional development opportunities of Forefront Suicide Prevention’s school-based programs. This includes providing schools with ongoing support and guidance in their comprehensive suicide prevention efforts, including, but not limited to: o Assist with planning and implementation of the Forefront in the Schools continuing education program and the professional learning community for the ESD based Behavioral Health Navigators. This can also involve providing TA service, set up and take down of materials, back-end technical support, data-entry, and may be performed independently or in collaboration with co-workers. o Manage the annual training calendar for the Forefront in the Schools program, supporting the professional learning community Forefront hosts for the ESD based Behavioral Health Navigators, and project planning for all elements of annual curriculum and resource review and update (in partnership with our Training/TA department). Collaborate across Education, Training and Evaluation departments to support training/technical assistance, curriculum development, and the evaluation of program outcomes. Keep informed of major trends in suicide prevention. Work independently, take initiative, manage time, perform research, organize information for efficient access, and enter data to resolve incoming requests from schools, and manage day-to-day program complexities. Support the growth and coordination of Forefront’s Coaching/Advising/TA for schools and ESDs. Making sure all schools are getting consistent coaching across personnel. Support program evaluation through regular coordination and collaboration with subject matter advisors and evaluation team. Support the writing and submission of reports needed for funders and partners as described in our contracts. Certify as a trainer in Forefront’s LEARN curriculum and be available to train or support school-based trainings as needed.
Operational (25%): Audit, catalogue, and maintain the large number of resources our schools-based program provides for schools including a plan for periodic updates and version control; mirroring best practice in suicide prevention, increasing accessibility, and alignment with best practice. This work will be done in collaboration with our communications team, program leads, and education manager. Lead departmental efforts in migrating from Google to MS Teams for all digital content, media, and assets. May assist with training new and existing Forefront staff, grant partners, and school-based partners in support of our programs.
Administrative (25%): This position is responsible for coordinating and maintaining Forefront’s school-based programing media and web presence; and hosting/supporting webinars and other education events including technical support as necessary. This position will also support, manage, and monitor our web portal and discussion forum for our Forefront in the Schools Program and the complementary newsletter. This requires ongoing collaboration and teaming with our communications team, program leads, and education manager. Manage school-based department calendars, internally and externally, including keeping long term projects on schedule. Work with Education Manager to manage budget and needed invoicing, payments, and grant funding of program. Act as a conduit for Forefront’s School’s Based Programing and the larger UW system and School of Social Work.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in public health, counseling, psychology, social work, education, human services or related field. At least one year of related work experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting. Desire to work in a highly collaborative environment. Ability to manage multi-phase projects from inception to completion. Strong interpersonal and communication skills including written communication. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Strong office software computer literacy (including: Google Suite, Microsoft Office/365 Suite, Wordpress). Strong commitment to customer service and promoting access to comprehensive suicide prevention efforts across Washington state.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Public Health, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Services or related field. Experience in development of curriculum materials and training syllabi. Experience in training, both face-to-face and virtually. Experience with Project Management, or the desire to obtain project management certification. Ability to communicate effectively (both oral and writing) and strong skills in customer service, conflict management, public speaking, intervention, creative problem solving, time management with an emphasis on teamwork, partnership, and results. Strong knowledge and skills working with web-based education platforms and learning management systems (e.g. Canvas, Zoom, MS Teams, etc.) Experience with Forefront’s work in suicide prevention in Schools.
