The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 23 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. Through our four faculty co-directors and other affiliated researchers and fellows, Stanford PACS has relationships with six schools and twelve departments at Stanford University. This allows us to leverage the intellectual assets of a diverse, world-class faculty across the University and provide a unique platform for knowledge exchange between academia, the nonprofit and for-profit community in Silicon Valley and globally.
Stanford PACS hosts the biennialPhilanthropy Innovation Summitfor high capacity donors, as well as the First Principles Forumwhich convenes founders, early employees, and investors in the technology sector interested in advancing and challenging their thinking on giving and impact. Additionally, the center hosts several public and private events throughout the year to connect students, scholars, practitioners, philanthropists, and others in the social impact sector globally.
Position Summary: Stanford PACS is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, and collegial individual to serve as its Senior Associate Director of Learning Initiatives to join its Effective Philanthropy Learning Initiative (EPLI) team. This position will work under the general supervision of the Director of Philanthropy Research and Education at PACS, and will lead:
Custom learning engagements for its various constituencies, including philanthropy professionals, intermediaries, and principals. The Sr. Assoc. Dir. will be responsible for all aspects of designing and delivering the curricula in collaboration with partner agencies in the U.S. and globally. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in philanthropic advising, support, and educational programming. They should have the ability to identify pressing issues and needs in the donor ecosystem, to draw relevant information and concepts from research, and to design and implement learning modules that promote strategic giving.
Additional special projects for EPLI, developed and identified in partnership with the Director of Philanthropy Research and Education at PACS.
In collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy Research and Education and Director of Partnerships and Community, the Senior Associate Director of Learning Initiatives will work on priority projects, with a focus on developing a schedule of custom educational engagements to be conducted with PACS staff and/or staff in collaborating organizations. The Sr. Associate Director will provide training for partner organizations and co-presenters, developing a robust "train-the-trainer" model in the process. The position will also help increase the scope and number of learning engagements, balancing staffing resources with program scheduling in an ongoing manner. The Sr. Assoc. Director will streamline the process of creating and presenting program modules, including by developing re-purposeable assets and the means to efficiently develop new materials. Strong written and oral communication, sound judgment, attention to detail, good listening skills, and tactful approaches to customers and colleagues are required.
This is a 100% FTE, continuing, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.
CORE DUTIES:
Strategize, manage, design, and implement an expanding portfolio of custom learning engagements in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy Research and Education and the Director of Partnership and Community.
Strategize, identify, and develop educational materials and learning modules based on principles of effective philanthropy, evolving needs, and research in the field.
Support and train co-presenters internal and external to PACS.
Contribute to priority projects for EPLI, supporting the lab's overall direction, and the implementation of a range of key initiatives, for US and international stakeholders.
Manage vendors on specific projects.
Other duties may also be assigned.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
