Sayre School, an independent, college preparatory day school in Lexington, KY, seeks a dedicated and engaged individual to lead the Academic Services department. The goal of Sayre’s Academic Services program is to support and enrich student achievement while encouraging development of self-advocacy skills and awareness of personal learning strengths and needs.
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Academic Services coordinates learning support services for the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools (PK2-12th grade).
The responsibilities of the Director of Academic Services include but are not limited to:
Lead and supervise a staff of seven learning specialists addressing student needs in all three academic divisions.
Develop and maintain student Individual Learning Plans, meet with faculty to communicate suggested accommodations.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child’s needs and progress.
Develop and implement school wide professional development for teachers.
Work closely with admissions regarding new student enrollment. Communicate and meet with all prospective families interested in or needing academic services supports.
Collaborate regularly with division heads and school counselors.
Plan and maintain departmental budget. Oversee monthly billing process.
Coordinate hearing, speech and language screenings school wide, follow-up communication with parents.
Coordinate benchmarking three times annually. Work with the team and Division Heads to interpret data and support students highlighted from this process.
Maintain a roster of outside service providers, communicating regularly to ensure a continuity of goals and services provided to families.
Organize and maintain student records.
Provide guidance to students with disabilities as they transition to college, and collaborate with the college counselor to ensure their needs are met.
Guide families through the evaluation process.
Ideal candidates will have
A Master’s degree in special education, educational psychology or a related field
Excellent communication and organizational skills
A minimum of five-years experience, preferably serving in a leadership role
