DESCRIPTION
The Assessment, Evaluation and Organizational Development Specialist ('AEOD Specialist') fills a key role in the division of Student Affairs by supporting division-wide and unit-level high-level special projects and initiatives that involve student assessment and program evaluation, learning outcomes, educational research, writing reports, and accessing and analyzing data needed for critical decision making by the Director of AEOD, Vice Chancellor-Student Affairs, and divisional senior leadership. The incumbent brings an awareness of concepts related to educational equity and is continually refining their approach to incorporating equity-mindedness in many facets related to assessment and data, including: planning, analysis, retrieval, consultation, providing data to divisional staff, and creating reports and data visualizations.
The AEOD Specialist will support units in creation of annual assessment reports and reports needed for business processes, along with high-level initiatives and programs including assessment of the division's strategic plan, commitments to anti-racism, and student-centeredness initiatives, along with contributions the division makes to the university strategic plan and Strategic Plan for Inclusive Excellence. The AEOD Specialist must have exceptional skill in organization and project management, data (quantitative and qualitative) analysis capability, clear communication skills (written and oral), and adapt quickly to various projects that vary in scope, audience and context.
This position may be eligible for a Hybrid flexible work arrangement, which could include a non-standard work schedule, and/or the ability to work off-site part of the time.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires basic knowledge in data collection and analyses techniques; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs. Experience with or ability to learn how to apply knowledge to evaluate and analyze data sources and quantitative and qualitative data, and to research and resolve questions, problems, and organizational issues.
Basic experience with statistical software packages, e.g. SPSS, with ability to learn more advanced applications Experience utilizing various computer applications (e.g., Excel, Qualtrics, Google Suite) to perform duties related to job functions (e.g., create online forms for data collection; extract data; create tables and visualizations; analyze data; and prepare reports). Experience with or ability to learn how to use Cognos and Tableau, as well as basic SQL queries.
Solid active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task. Knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Ability to refocus quickly from one activity or role to another and change priorities quickly as circumstances dictate. Ability to work effectively in a strong service environment, under pressure, and subject to frequently changing priorities.
Solid ability to present information in a clear concise manner verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of best practices in data visualization and of asset-based approaches to transformation in higher education. Competency and creativity with computer systems including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Ability to synthesize issues and present complex findings and recommendations in a clear concise manner, both in writing and verbally
Understanding of organizational rules and regulations. Knowledge of theoretical issues and historical trends in higher education. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion to ensure the success of groups historically underrepresented and under served in higher education. Ability to scan the landscape of the division and campus in order to anticipate trends and issues and gather information on these topics that will assist senior VCSA leadership.
