The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) and Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) invites applications for the position of Pediatric Residency Program Director of Pediatric Residency Program Director.
Appointment as full-time Associate Professor (without tenure due to funding) or Professor (without tenure due to funding) of Pediatrics at the University of Washington, School of Medicine, will be commensurate with experience, training, and achievement. Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The anticipated start date is Summer 2023.
Function of Position: Leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of the Department's Pediatric Residency Program. Broadly, the program director has responsibility, authority and accountability covering every aspect of pediatric residency education and training. This includes oversight of:
Curriculum and evaluation
Learning environment
Diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism initiatives
Faculty as teachers, coaches, mentors, advisors, and role models
Supervision of residents, including work hours
Program management including program evaluation and improvement, communications, ACGME accreditation, and program resources
Overall Responsibilities and Expectations: The program director must:
be a role model of professionalism;
design and conduct the program in a fashion consistent with the needs of the community, the mission(s) of the Sponsoring Institution, and the mission(s) of the program;
administer and maintain a learning environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME Competency domains;
develop and oversee a process to evaluate candidates prior to approval as program faculty members for participation in the resident program education and at least annually thereafter;
have the authority to approve program faculty members for participation in residency program education at all sites;
have the authority to remove program faculty members from participation in residency program education at all sites;
have the authority to remove residents from supervising interactions and/or learning environments that do not meet the standards of the program;
submit accurate and complete information required and requested by the DIO, GMEC, and ACGME;
provide applicants who are offered an interview with information related to the applicant's eligibility for the relevant specialty board examination(s);
demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and anti-racism through continuous development of self and relevant initiatives, modeling inclusive behavior, and proactively addressing issues
provide a learning and working environment in which residents have the opportunity to raise concerns and provide feedback in a confidential manner as appropriate, without fear of intimidation or retaliation;
collaborate closely with Pediatric Residency Associate Program Directors who share responsibilities and expectations as written
collaborate with Pediatric Chief Residents
ensure the program's compliance with the Sponsoring Institution's policies and procedures related to grievances and due process;
ensure the program's compliance with the Sponsoring Institution's policies and procedures for due process when action is taken to suspend or dismiss, not to promote, or not to renew the appointment of a resident
ensure the program's compliance with the Sponsoring Institution's policies and procedures on employment and non-discrimination;
document verification of program completion for all graduating residents within 30 days;
provide verification of an individual resident's completion upon the resident's request, within 30 days; and,
obtain review and approval of the Sponsoring Institution's DIO before submitting information or requests to the ACGME, as required in the Institutional Requirements, and outlined in the ACGME Program Director's Guide to the Common Program Requirements.

The base salary range for this position will be: $12,500 - $39,584 per month ($150,000 - $475,008 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children's University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).
Applicants are required to have:
an MD, or DO, or MD/DO combined (or foreign equivalent)
Applicants must have completed a pediatric residency and be certified by the American Board of Pediatrics
2 years or more in residency or fellowship program leadership role
Must include specialty expertise and at least five years of documented educational and/or administrative experience, or qualifications acceptable to the ACGME Review Committee
Must include current certification in the specialty for which they are program director by the American Board of Pediatrics or by the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics, or specialty qualifications that are acceptable to the ACGME Review Committee
Must include current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment; and,
Must include ongoing clinical activity
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
