The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA) is one of the largest colleges on the SDSU and the most disciplinarily diverse. Interdisciplinary collaboration is the hallmark of the academic rigor of the College where students are prepared to be creative, thoughtful and responsible leaders and citizens of our ever-changing society. PSFA is recognized for bridging the college experience with the regional and global community by preparing its students for professional careers. Through its dedication to and appreciation for traditional and non-traditional forms of research and scholarship, PSFA is uniquely positioned in the community to produce career-ready graduates.
The College comprises seven schools and three departments that span the visual and performing arts, communication, hospitality and tourism management, journalism and media studies, public affairs and criminal justice, and military sciences. These units share a common ambition: to advance human knowledge and understanding while cultivating a rich environment in which students can seize opportunities for growth, ask stimulating questions and experience discovery that will transform their lives. PSFA enrolls nearly 5,200 total students and has over 300 faculty. The College maintains among the highest four- and six-year graduation rates on campus. It offers nearly 130 different scholarships totaling over $800,000 in awarded funds. Through SDSU's Campaign for Excellence, PSFA has raised more $51 million to support students, faculty and academic programming. Collectively, the nearly 1,600 arts majors in PSFA produce more than 350 visual and performing arts events each year, most of which are free to attend.
The next dean of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts must demonstrate significant leadership experience and the ability to work across a wide range of academic disciplines. This individual must have a doctorate and a record of accomplishment suitable for appointment as a tenured full professor in one of the college's schools or departments. Strong budget management skills, including an understanding of the variety of revenue streams that support the work of the college, the ability to align resources with priorities, and the ability to advocate for and attract new resources.

A record of supporting faculty excellence in teaching, service, and research, scholarship, and creative pursuits.

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
