School of Medicine Leadership Position Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Open Faculty Position – Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor Rank
The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (AD DEI). The incumbent will have a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate department in the School of Medicine and participate in administrative, teaching and research or creative activities. The AD DEI will provide leadership in all aspects of the School of Medicine's DEI programs, including education, research, clinical, community outreach, recruitment, and support of faculty, residents, students, and staff.
We seek applicants with proven leadership experience in diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education, and preferably in academic medicine. The successful candidate will demonstrate foundational knowledge of diversity, inclusion, equity, cultural awareness and competency, and exemplify the characteristics of an inclusive leader in daily interactions with people at all levels of the organization.
The AD DEI will provide leadership in all aspects of the School of Medicine's DEI programs and will serve as senior-level advisor to the Dean, senior associate deans, department chairs, CEO UCR Health and other medical school leaders. The AD DEI will facilitate the establishment and implementation of the School of Medicine Diversity Strategic Plan and will be responsible for developing and tracking measurable goals and objectives for diversity and inclusion efforts. The AD DEI will chair the School of Medicine's Diversity committee and will work collaboratively with University of California Riverside's (UCR) Vice Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer to ensure School of Medicine's alignment with UCR. The AD DEI must have knowledge of issues pertaining to diversity and inclusion in academic medicine and, ideally, possess a comprehensive understanding of health disparities and health disparities research. In addition, the candidate must possess excellent communication skills and a record of building consensus to support decisions and programs.
Founded in 2013, the School of Medicine at UCR is the sixth University of California Medical School and serves the rapidly growing Inland Southern California region by training a much-needed physician workforce and catalyzing innovations in research, education, and healthcare delivery. The UCR School of Medicine's mission is to improve the health of the community in the Inland Empire, one of the most ethnically diverse and medically underserved areas of the country. UCR is a world-class research university with an exceptionally diverse undergraduate student body. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
The successful candidate must possess an MD, PhD or EdD degree or equivalent. The successful candidate will also be expected to show a record of research or scholarly activities appropriate for the academic appointments in Professor (Ladder Rank), Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate appropriate administrative experience and a proven record of academic and administrative leadership qualities.
