The UW Autism Center (UWAC) is devoted to supporting families affected by autism spectrum disorders through exceptional clinical services, innovative scientific research and high-quality training. UWAC is part of the Center on Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington and incorporates faculty and staff from the UW School of Medicine, College of Arts & Sciences, and College of Education.
The UWAC currently has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This individual will work among a team of professionals, including licensed psychologists, speech-language pathologists, behavior analysts, behavior technicians, medical professionals, faculty, graduate students, and pre- and post-doctoral fellows. The two main functions of this position include participating in our Training and School Services team and participating on our ABA Team.
On our Training and School Services team this role includes providing professional development and training and consultation to the community including parents/family members, educators, and other providers. On our ABA team this position includes designing, implementing and modifying direct intervention and instructional programs for children, adolescents, and adults with autism using evidence-based interventions.
The position will support the Autism Center-wide policies and procedures and workload standards. The position requires specialized training and expertise related to autism and the ability to handle complex and sensitive situations. Opportunities to develop new programs are available and encouraged. This position will report directly to the Director of Training and School Services and the Director of Clinical Services for the UW Autism Center.
The UW Autism Center Clinical Program is one of the largest service providers for autism spectrum disorders in the region and is considered a national and international leader. This position will play a central role in the UWAC.
Duties & Responsibilities
This position will include providing training and consultation and clinical services to individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Specifically job duties include:
Training and School Services:
•Provide professional development and training to participants interacting with individuals with ASD including parents/family members, educators, and other providers. Training may consist of developing workshop material(s), presenting workshops, and traveling to and from workshops. Training may be provided in a variety of styles including symposia, small group, or in-classroom hands-on training. •Provide classroom or student consultation to individuals with ASD in the school setting. Consultation may include but is not limited to review of records, interview, functional analysis, direct observation, designing intervention, direct intervention, coaching school staff, and report writing. •Complete and participate in multi-disciplinary education evaluations, as requested. •Generate workshops and materials based on evidenced-based, best practice strategies for a variety of audiences including parents and family members, special educators, general educators, school administration, BCBAs, SLPs, OT/PT, Psychologists, etc. •Meet minimum of 60% billable expectation •Complete student evaluations, reports, progress reports, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely manner. •Meet assigned deadlines
ABA Team Services:
•Provide individual skills training for children, adolescents, and adults with autism spectrum disorders •Supervise behavior technicians who work with clients in their homes or a clinic setting •Provide consultation to community providers who work with patients in order to develop continuity in care for the patient and their family. •Meet minimum of 60% billable expectation •Complete initial client/patient evaluations, treatment plans, progress reports, referral letters, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely manner. •Complete paperwork within required time frame •Meet assigned deadlines
Additional Duties as Assigned:
Perform related duties as required, including but not limited to:
•Participate in community activities and events •Collaborate with other clinical team members in assessment and intervention and consult with other members of clinical team regarding diagnosis and intervention strategies, as needed. •Keep appropriate records of services provided and coordinate with the billing office and direct supervisor regarding services to meet billable expectations. •Supervise undergraduate and graduate practicum students and volunteers and evaluate their performance. •Attend weekly staff meetings, other meetings as necessary
•Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis or related field •LBA (Licensed Behavior Analyst) license from Washington state DOH and BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) certification •2+ years of experience in working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders •Experience teaching and designing programs for students with autism spectrum disorders, including collaboration with general education teachers, school administrators, related services personnel and outside community providers
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills; •Experience teaching and designing workshops on topics related to Autism Spectrum Disorders; •Comfortable presenting to large groups of other professionals; •Experience assessing behavior and synthesizing results in a written report; •An approach to working with colleagues that enhances collaboration and team building; •Ability to exercise independent judgment, negotiate multi-layered regulatory systems, manage competing priorities, strong organization skills •Please note that this position requires frequent travel to training sites and client homes; the ability and flexibility to reliably travel to alternate work locations is critical. •Must be able to travel efficiently and effectively to alternate worksites; frequency may vary based on candidate interests and department need
