Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 7 divisions, with over 700 career employees, 1000 to 1200 student employees and an annual operating budget greater than $200 million. HDH provides housing for approximately 18,000 undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff and their families in over 400 buildings covering over 8 million sq. ft. HDH is in the midst of implementing an aggressive building plan which added 10,000 new beds in the next 10 years and will almost double our square footage by 2032.
Currently, HDH houses 38% of UCSD's enrolled students with a goal of housing 65% by 2032. HDH provides maintenance and repair, contract meals/meal plan management, as well as retail food service, conference services and catering services to residents, students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

Under supervision, the Custodial Laborer performs unskilled manual and operational tasks for College Residences/Dining Halls facilities, meeting rooms, study rooms, laundry facilities, offices, lounge areas, hallways, stairs, property signage, trash/recycle chutes and rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, suites, and landings, interior/exterior common areas, and Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) grounds and walkways. Will assist Building Maintenance Workers as needed. Safely operates and drives trucks with lifts, box trucks, and various other university vehicles. Responsible for safeguarding assigned area's keys and care/operation of custodial supplies and equipment. Will respond to routine and emergency work requests from supervisor, staff, maintenance, Customer Service Center, and police department as needed. Will provide customer service to student residents and guests as needed. Work location is Dining Halls/student residence. Positive interaction with staff, residents, and guests is required.
Will be required to work weekends, alternate work hours and shifts. May be required to work overtime by supervisor with little or no advanced notice.
Demonstrated ability to operate large box trucks, closed vans, golf carts, and other university vehicles.
Demonstrated experience working in an environment that requires heavy lifting and manual labor. Knowledge of power and manual tools.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of general custodial duties and ability to operate custodial equipment. Knowledge and ability to use cleaning chemicals safely and appropriately.
Ability to determine when repairs are necessary and inform supervisor.
Ability to safeguard assigned keys.
Proven ability to build and maintain customer relationships through a professional approach in handling customer service needs and resolving problems efficiently. Ability to work effectively in a service oriented environment.
Proven ability to problem-solve and exercise sound judgment in order to communicate and respond quickly to emergency situations with tact and diplomacy.
