Reporting to the Director of Resource Management, the Financial Analyst is responsible for providing support to the Director and senior leadership within the office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences (VCHS) and School of Medicine Dean (SOM Dean). Resource Management office is responsible for financial management of VCHS and SOM Dean commitments, Health Sciences gift and endowment portfolio, requiring analytical and accounting skills and business management knowledge, including general understanding of UC San Diego and Health Sciences administrative organizations, departments, policies, procedures, processes, and practices.
Responsible for coordination of the Expenditure Commitments Committee (ECC), a high-profile weekly Faculty and Advanced Practice Provider recruitment oversight committee comprised of senior leaders from offices of VCHS, SOM Dean, and Health System. Responsible for financial management of Health Sciences endowed chairs and serves as VCHS contact for Health Sciences gift and endowment portfolio, including financial management of Academy of Clinician Scholars, Kaiser, and Whitehill endowments' annual awards.
Business professional who possesses financial administration knowledge of UC San Diego and Health Sciences administrative organizations, departments, policies, procedures, processes, and practices; analyzes problems and issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. Makes recommendations for developing internal control processes and practices. Develops and documents procedures for resource management across various functions. Possesses excellent communications and collaboration skills working with internal and external contacts on matters pertaining to organizational plans and objectives. As directed, conducts ad-hoc special, analytical projects and benchmarking studies. Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned.
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.
Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Effective interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
Possess substantial knowledge of the programs and philosophy of Health Sciences; understanding and supporting the education, research and outreach missions of the Vice Chancellor's Office is essential.
Knowledge of UCSD policies and procedures, including the willingness to understand and enforce these policies when required.
