The Stanford Graduate School of Business seeks a Senior Financial Aid Counselor. This role will report to the Director, Financial Aid. The Senior Counselor will work closely with the the Financial Aid team to administer fellowships and loans to graduate students, serve as a representative of the GSB Financial Aid Office and assist Stanford colleagues and the general public with inquiries related to financial aid programs and policies or for a specific program or area, and ensure compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations and policies for awarding aid.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to both develop and execute on strategy within a world class academic institution, ensuring students have the financial resources needed to attend and participate fully in our academic programs.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Review student eligibility for outside scholarship funds per University policy and donor guidelines; adjusts existing aid packages as appropriate.
Adjust student eligibility upon request for student loans based on eligibility guidelines.
Communicate complex financial information and application procedures to prospective students, current students, and their families in a clear, timely and professional manner.
Respond to a high volume of requests for information via email.
Serve as the main point of contact for walk-in and phone traffic to the Financial Aid Office.
Collaborate with university staff in other offices to resolve complex student issues. Answers inquiries by clarifying desired information; researching, locating and providing information.
Resolves problems by clarifying issues, researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions, escalating unresolved concerns.
Documents student interactions when appropriate.
Maintains and improves quality results by adhering to standards and guidelines; recommending improved procedures.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree and three years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to exercise tact and discretion when dealing with students, families, and staff.
Expertise in counseling and working with students individually, ability to provide excellent customer service in difficult situations.
Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage time and workflow and to manage multiple, concurrent high priority projects in a time-pressured environment.
Demonstrated understanding and ability to explain University policy to others, detailed knowledge of financial aid regulations.
Knowledge of multiple financial aid systems, document management systems, and window based environment and office applications.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
Functional experience in financial analysis, operations, program management, or customer service is desirable.
Experience in financial services, financial aid, or higher education is also desirable.
