The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the UW-Madison campus in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities. FP&M works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking and transportation services.
Under the supervision of the Architecture and Engineering Director, the Fire/Life Safety Designer Advisor is responsible for monitoring, interpreting, communicating, and applying all established fire codes, policies, and procedures to keep our campus safe. This position will evaluate and assist in designing and evaluating fire and life safety systems for the existing buildings on the UW-Madison campus. Duties include and are not limited to meeting with campus stakeholders, evaluating requests for system improvements, performing condition inventories of existing systems, and reviewing construction drawings, and proposed system designs.
Responsibilities:
Provides engineering expertise in designing, modifying and constructing Institution facilities, including buildings and physical plant infrastructure to ensure the Institution is meeting regulatory and professional engineering standards.
40% Assesses, designs, modifies, and constructs institution facilities utilizing engineering techniques and best practices
25% Monitors, interprets, communicates, and applies all established building codes, policies, and procedures
10% Liaises facility construction plans with internal and external stakeholders and vendors, and provides engineering guidance and recommendations to align with strategic facility planning
5% Assists other work units in evaluating building mechanical system conditions, when requested
20% Performs any and all duties as requested in a mentored fashioned, overseen by licensed mechanical engineers and designers in performing the above duties.
