The International Affairs office at SIUE is seeking candidates to fill a full-time International Student Program Advisor position. To support the mission of SIUE, the Office of International Affairs leads, promotes and facilitates internationalization initiatives and activities at the University. The office provides services to approximately 850 international students at SIUE as well as international visiting scholars and domestic students studying abroad.
The selected candidate will assume the role of Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) coordinator and oversee routine student immigration issues such as transfers, travel signatures, I-20 reprints. The International Student Program Advisor will also provide basic immigration advisement as a designated school official (DSO). The Advisor will provide back-up optional practical training (OPT) reporting; assist with new student immigration check-in; and complete Atlas event corrections. This position also oversees and communicates with the local social security office to assist with international student social security card needs and coordinates international student tax support via Sprintax.
Additionally, the Advisor will also assist and facilitate the study abroad programs. In this role, they will provide critical information to faculty leaders, work with outside insurance providers, review student deposits for study abroad programs, and oversee the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) programming (maintain student balances, assure that fees, room and board are paid and/or expended appropriately).
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the program.
Due to the professional duties of this position, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required. The Advisor must be on-call in the event of an emergency, work well under pressure, and be willing to work a flexible schedule as noted previously. In addition, this position must continue to monitor emails and voicemail during weekends and break periods, especially during peak international student arrival periods.
