This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.
The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), an organized research unit at UCSD, was established to provide education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area that encompasses four hospital systems, two universities and four biomedical research organizations. The mission of the ACTRI is to create an environment that advances health care through interactions between basic scientists, clinical investigators, community physicians, and patients.
The Developer & Application Manager is a valued member of the Clinical Research Strategic Initiatives (CRSI) team, an office within the ACTRI, whose goal is to achieve sustainable and strategically aligned solutions to further increase organizational performance and effectiveness.
The primary responsibility of the Developer & Application Manager is to maintain and continue to develop the ACTRI Data Warehouse to meet customer needs. The Developer & Application Manager is a skilled programmer with API experience and is capable of extracting, transforming, and loading data into our data warehouse. The Developer & Application Manager serves as a liaison between technical units and the CRSI team. The secondary responsibility of the Developer & Application Manager is to help manage and enhance CRSI's suite of business applications. The Developer & Application Manager provides technical and operational support.
Maintains and develops our data warehouse. Connects to internal and external data sources (utilizes APIs, linked servers, ETL, Python coding, script scheduling, etc.).
Assists with performance (data warehouse, servers, systems, etc.).
Creates and maintains technical documentation.
Prepares data, builds visualizations, and performs data analysis (utilizing Tableau).
Provides admin support for ACTRI systems (Monday.com, Harvest App, Tableau, JotForm, ACTRI DW).
Liaison between technical and non-technical units.
Gathers requirements for system/process improvements.
Provides user training and support for ACTRI systems.
Assists with system demos and onboarding/offboarding activities.
Contributes project management and other support as needed.
The Developer & Application Manager is a self-starter and keeps projects moving forward to meet deadlines. The Developer & Application Manager is an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding; independently performs all responsibilities; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
Experience with APIs, programming, and data warehousing.
Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated experience with database administration. Working knowledge of database management systems and standards. Knowledge relating to database system design. Advanced database querying and modeling skills working with moderately complex databases.
Demonstrated experience working with healthcare or biomedical research data under privacy regulations (HIPAA).
Demonstrated experience with project management and process improvement.
