To provide timely and accurate advising to Bachelors and Masters level students in the School of Social Work to ensure their timely and successful completion of their academic program. Responsible for working collaboratively across constituencies to develop and implement practical solutions to complex problems; for understanding and communicating the needs of specific populations of students to administrators, implementing and interpreting institutional rules to students, and facilitating the exchange of academic advising information to all concerned parties. To assist with program implementation, new student orientation, data collection, preparation of reports and management of more complex academic advising activities. To train advising staff when requested.
Advise undergraduate and graduate social work students on a semester by semester basis to evaluate and monitor program toward degree completion. Advise students individually and in groups, in person or remotely. Connect students to the larger campus, and refer students to additional services when needed to facilitate academic advancement. Utilize multi-media technology and other resources to connect students to campus. Utilize the University systems to verify student information and to ensure degree plans are accurate and up to date. Assist with student organizations and new student orientations, including providing presentations. Maintain statistical information as needed about the advising services. Serve as the liaison between the School of Social Work and other relevant offices on and off campus. Prepare required reports, budget plans and other information for the unit when requested by the supervisor. Assist with the recruitment and training of academic advising staff as requested. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in professional conferences and individual professional development. Serve on committees relevant to the mission of the unit. Represent the unit in community events that may occur outside of normal work hours.
Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program or the equivalent experience.
Master's degree in Social Work with two years paid work experience in a human service field or in higher education. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Minimum of two (2) years academic advising experience at UTA. One (1) year of supervisory experience in an institution of higher education.
