The Buckley School is an independent, K-9 day school for boys located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, NYC.  The school has three divisions: Lower School (K-3), Middle School (4-6) and Upper School (7-9), with a student body of approximately 370 pupils and 125 faculty and staff members.

Position Description: 

The Buckley School seeks a School Counselor for a leave replacement, beginning September 2022.  The successful candidate will have experience working with children, parents, and teachers in an elementary school setting. The person who assumes this role will be empathetic, thoughtful, dynamic, and possess excellent communication and listening skills. 

This position is part of the Learning Resources Department Team that includes the school counselor, learning specialists, and school nurse. The team is focused on the intellectual, physical, and social emotional wellness of students.

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Develop relationships with students in Grades K-9.
• Observe students in classes in consultation with teachers and offer specific strategies to support classroom behavior and well-being.
• Serve as a resource to teachers and parents to support student mental health.
• Provide individual short-term supportive work and referrals.
• Collaborate with outside support services.
• Facilitate social emotional learning classes.
• Implement various support and affinity groups for students, including Banana Splits. 
• Design behavioral interventions as part of learning plans for students in need of formal support and accommodations in the classroom.
•  Maintain student records such as meeting notes, confidential records, support service documentation and observational data.

Qualifications:

• PhD, PsyD in Psychology or Master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience working with elementary and middle school age children and their families.
