Moravian Academy is seeking an engaging, dynamic, and innovative wood studio teacher and resident artist to join the upper school as a full-time visual arts faculty member starting the 2022-23 school year.  This full-time faculty member will be responsible for directing the Merle-Smith Wood Studio and designing and implementing 8 half-credit woodworking courses. The position will become an advisor and make a significant contribution to student life as a fifth responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Woodworking artist and teacher within the visual arts department to design and teach studio courses for grades 10-12.
• Demonstrate, facilitate and mentor students in practical and artistic woodworking skills.
• Facilitate hands-on exploration, student collaboration and problem-solving.
• Communicate and uphold the strictest safety standards.
• Create meaningful partnerships with parents and families, including regular communications through school-supplied online tools, emails, and phone calls. 
• Assess and provide feedback to students and parents during comment and grading periods.
• Assume duties including, but not limited to, serving as an advisor to a small group of students, taking on a fifth responsibility, and leading an activity.
• Lead the upper school faculty and students in appreciating the creations and study of 3D art.
• Participate in professional collaboration, including committee work, chapel services, and divisional faculty meetings.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, a Master’s degree strongly preferred, and/or demonstrated proficiency in the art of woodworking.
• Minimum 3-5 years of teaching experience.
• Preference will be given to applicants with a previous background in independent schools or similar college-preparatory programs.
• Proficiency in digital educational technologies.

About the School:

Moravian Academy, located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is a PK through 12th grade coeducational college preparatory school and the ninth oldest independent school in the United States. Compensation and Benefits:

Moravian Academy salaries are competitive and based on years of experience and expertise.  The Academy’s generous retirement plan pays 8% of salary when eligible employees contribute 5% of their salary through payroll reduction. Full-time employees are eligible to enroll in the Group Medical and Prescription Healthcare Program offered by the school. The Academy pays up to 70% of the premium. The Academy financially supports the continuing professional development of its faculty and administrators.  Tuition remission in the form of need-based aid for tuition at Moravian Academy is available for the children of employees who qualify.
