The USC Graduate School, as part of the Provostâs Office of Academic Programs is seeking a Student Services Advisor I to join our collaborative team. Reporting to the Associate Dean, this role will support graduate students who are completing their academic careers. The work requires the development of strong relationships with students, staff, and faculty across the university to ensure the efficient submission of dissertation and theses. The incumbent must also possess the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, be able to juggle and prioritize multiple projects at once and provide stellar support to a variety of constituents.
Provide individual, group advising and administrative support to approximately 1,000 graduate students annually who are submitting dissertations and theses through Thesis Center, the universityâs online portal.
Organize workshops and outreach events for staff, faculty and students submitting dissertations and theses
Develop expertise and understanding of graduate degree requirements and academic policies to ensure accurate and proactive advising
Work with schools, programs and other offices on behalf of students to ensure the swift resolution of potential problems.
Work closely with the USC Libraries, ProQuest and other constituents related to publication
Enter protected SIS data related to thesis/dissertation submission
1 year experience advising and developing student programs.
Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education.
Outstanding communicator (written and oral) able to distill and convey information to diverse audiences.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment, as well as flexibility in the face of changing priorities is critical.
2+ years of directly related professional experience in a higher ed setting
Proven ability to foster and maintain relationships with a variety of university constituents, especially graduate students
Project management experience as it pertains to academic processes
Knowledge of USC programs, services, and software.
