BFTV is a large administrative cluster, providing administrative and technical support for teaching, research, instruction, and outreach to the faculty, staff, and students of Biological & Agricultural Engineering, Food Science & Technology, and Viticulture & Enology within the two colleges of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences and Engineering. These departments and the Cluster have a combined estimated annual operating budget of $70MM, composed of state funds, extramural funds, endowments, gifts, and sales income. The Cluster supports 60 faculty, 140 other academic titles, 110 staff, and approximately 650 combined undergraduate and graduate students annually. The Cluster supports facilities through the State of California, including labs in Dublin, Byron, Oakville, and various buildings and sites on the Davis Campus.
JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, provide administration and analysis for contract and grant pre and post awards in the BFTV Cluster, serving the departments of Biological & Agricultural Engineering, Food Science & Technology, and Viticulture & Enology within the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences. Works in a highly independent capacity and serves as lead financial analyst for the contracts and grants team, dealing with the most complex proposals and funding sources and serves as compliance officer and resource advisor to the faculty for proposal submissions. Responsible for the pre-award management of grants and contracts. Provides effort reporting and analytical financial reports for large, complex academic departments with a variety of state, private and federal projects. Gathers, manages, and analyzes financial data from a variety of revenue streams, including state and federal grants, private grants, gifts, and other funding sources. Responsible for budget preparation, review, analysis, effort reporting, compliance and forecasting of extramural budgets.

PHYSICAL DEMAND - Lift/move boxes of financial documents for storage purposes weighing up to 30 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Work flexible schedule, including occasional overtime, to meet project deadlines and operation needs.
- Vacation time limited during peak work cycles, such as fiscal close and extramural deadlines.
- This position will have a Flex Work hybrid schedule; a mix of onsite and remote work.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired:
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA), or ability to obtain certification within a twelve month time period from date of appointment.
- Completed UC Davis Research Administration Certificate (RAC) Series or ability to obtain within one year from date of appointment
- Experience in financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning to analyze quantitative aspects of fiscal and budgetary issues and with compiling financial data and reports.
- Experience in federal, state, and private grant budget preparation based on narrative methodological research plans and designs, analysis, and forecasting to control complex budgets as well as with financial reporting policies.
- Experience providing leadership and decision making to solve problems and to evaluate business needs and critical thinking and problem solving skills to analyze complex data and develop meaningful solutions to specific problems.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate and interact with Dean's Offices, campus departments, Principal Investigators, CAO, staff, and students to ensure compliance with UCD policy and procedures.
- Organizational skills to work with changing priorities and demanding workload to manage and monitor multiple accounts simultaneously and to meet multiple and variable priorities and deadlines.
Preferred:
- Experience providing leadership and direction for departmental extramural staff in all aspects of contract and grant administration.
- Experience with UC Davis financial systems, such as DaFIS, Kuali, SISS, PPS DS.
- Experience with UC Davis purchasing, entertainment, travel and business management practices.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, cost allocation methods, and accounting policies and procedures in an academic environment.
