Business Manager for the Graduate School

The Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for the position of Business Manager. The salary for this Market Range 10 position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Business Manager is a twelve-month, exempt level position that serves as the primary advisor to the Dean and Associate Deans of the Graduate School in all fiscal and compliance matters. The Business Manager is responsible for understanding and ensuring compliance with federal, state, university, and divisional policies and procedures in all Graduate School functions. The Business Manager oversees all accounts linked to the Graduate School and interacts with individuals internal and external to the university on the administration of these accounts. The Business Manager provides data and data analysis to the Dean so that responsible decisions can be made related to use of resources. The Business Manager will provide supervision of the Accounting Specialist I, and will work closely with the Office Manager to oversee the human resource functions within the Graduate School.

The Business Manager will manage and reconcile all accounts, including oversight of all transactions (fiscal and human resources), oversee training, account reconciliation and documentation of procedures of all divisional ledgers. The Business Manager will prepare monthly reports for the Dean and/or Associate Deans in the Graduate School. This position monitors accounts receivables for the Graduate School and any cost share commitments, as well as processing additional pay approvals for graduate students.

The Business Manager will gather and analyze data for projecting yearly expenditures and trends, prepare annual budgets including financial planning and analysis, and manage contracts linked to the Graduate School. The Business Manager will manage fellowship accounts for the Graduate School, as well as various funding awards, such as the GSS Travel Awards, Academic Support Awards, Student/Faculty Research Awards, and Recruitment Awards. The Business Manager attends meetings as needed to represent the Graduate School, assists with special events, and interacts with various offices and business/budget managers across campus. The Business Manager works closely with college budget directors on issues related to student support.
