JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Academic Advising Responsibilities (75%):
Provide accurate and timely advising to a caseload of 500+ students so that they may develop education plans, enroll in appropriate classes, understand college policies and procedures, utilize online services, and be able to access and use college support services.
Provide supportive and appropriate advising for a caseload of 500+ students struggling academically and suggest, provide, present, or develop college success strategies aimed at retaining students encountering academic difficulty.
Assist students in the development of effective problem-solving skills, self-advocacy, decision-making, and personal responsibility to support students' ability to persist in goal attainment.
Design, implement and evaluate advising related outreach programs, presentations, workshops and other activities to facilitate retention to include Students of Color.
Develop collaborative relationships and provides coordinated support with college partners including Counseling and Health Center, Student Affairs, The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and International Education in retention and completion efforts. Expected to consider and emphasize the needs of students with marginalized identities.
Provide unofficial credential evaluations from other colleges and universities for academic degree placement and planning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Coordination Responsibilities (25%):
Work with a specific Associate Director to help with the development of policies and procedures for advising Clark College students.
Provide support for the leadership team as well as training for new advisors.
Participate in advisory, college, and community meetings as requested as well as department and college activities, and committees as appropriate.
Support the Advising Services team as appropriate; this may include curriculum development, coordination of advising efforts/logistics, and assisting Credential Evaluations and/or Running Start.
Develop strategic and effective partnerships with other university departments/programs supporting students with marginalized identities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of combined related experience in academic advising, academic coaching or related experience in higher education OR Master's degree and one (1) year of combined related experience in academic advising, academic coaching or related experience in higher education; year-for-year combined related experience equivalent to educational levels will be considered.
Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated experience providing services, support and advocacy for Students of Color.
Strong computer skills and demonstrated ability to utilize technology (learning management systems; Microsoft Office Suite; virtual communication platforms, relational databases).
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills. Strong interpersonal skills with high level of self- awareness.
Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills. Self-directed initiative to create solutions to identifiable and perceived problems. Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty, and students.
Ability to respond to changing needs, requirements, and information. Respond positively to changing business needs and responsibilities. Adapt approach and method to achieve results; recover quickly from setbacks and finds alternatives.
Must provide excellent customer service and function well in a busy, sometimes stressful environment. Positive attitude in the face of adversity is a necessary.
