The incumbent will oversee academic support for football student-athletes in conjunction with the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Affairs, in addition to being the primary advisor for an Olympic Sport. The Assistant Director will serve as an integral member of the Athlete Academic Affairs team to advocate for and support student-athletes towards graduation and beyond. The incumbent will monitor assigned student-athletes’ academic progress with regards to University and NCAA academic eligibility requirements and participate in recruiting activities. Duties include organizing and implementing academic programs that contribute to the educational and personal growth of supervised student-athletes.

Job Description

• Provide academic support for assigned student athletes, including personal and career development assistance. Refer students to offices for specialized services when appropriate. Work with coaches and other University constituents to facilitate success of assigned student athletes. Assist in determining NCAA eligibility for continued enrollment and/or for competition.
• Organize and implement specific academic programs to assist student-athletes in meeting their educational goals. Duties include development of individualized academic plans, including weekly one-on-one meetings, tutoring, APS and study table.
• Design and implement academic strategies to teach study and learning skills, time management and organization skills, and goal setting.
• Communicate regularly with coaches and staff through daily and weekly reporting.
• Assist Athlete Academic Affairs team with new student-athlete orientation, learning development center support, summer bridge programming, and all other duties that are encompassed with supporting the entire Athlete Academic Affairs team.
• Maintains knowledge of all NCAA and University rules concerning academic standing and eligibility requirements and works closely with Office of Athletic Compliance. Reports academic performance results of assigned student athletes and teams to the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Affairs and coaches upon completion of each semester.
• Additional duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, professional experience advising in Division I Athletics. Demonstrates strong verbal and written communications skills, with diverse population including student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and university partners. Ability to work nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree, preferably in higher education or sport management, or counseling. Two years of experience advising football student-athletes in Division I FBS. Knowledge of NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletics. Demonstrated experience working with academically under prepared student athletes.
