Job Description:
- The Assistant Dean of Students interprets and implements university and PME policies and procedures for effective student affairs administration, particularly in the areas of matriculation, registration, financial aid and graduation. S/he also is the lead administrator for non-degree visiting student enrollment. Â S/he serves as a resource to divisional students, faculty and program administrators to communicate and resolve issues in these areas.
- The Assistant Dean of Students is the lead PME administrator for managing student accounts, including financial aid, stipend disbursements, tuition and fee payment, external fellowship coordination, and reimbursements.
- The Assistant Dean of Students leads with the communication, coordination, and execution of the Spring Diploma and Hooding Ceremony. This involves a close working relationship with the Office of University Events and Ceremonies. S/he also coordinates and executes elements of key PME events such as New Student Orientation.
- The Assistant Dean of Students tracks and records student academic progress at the divisional level: quarterly reviews, annual progress reports, advisor matching, advancement to candidacy, dissertation defenses, etc. S/he is the PME liaison to the Dissertation Office and coordinates divisional approval of dissertations. S/he leads communications to students related to divisional policies, expectations, and status associated with academic milestones.
- The Assistant Dean of Students represents the DOS Office in prospective student visit programming, partnering with academic program administrators.
- The Assistant Dean of Students supports the PME's Dean's Advisory Council, coordinating the agenda, creating summary reports, processing reimbursements, and reconciling monthly ledger sheets and balancing accounts.Â
- S/he assists the Dean of Students with managing leaves of absence, Pro Forma status, return to residence, and other status changes.
- The Assistant Dean of Students serves on committees per the request of the Dean of Students and works with the Dean of Students on ad hoc projects as needed.Â
- The Assistant Dean of Students supports divisional student recruitment efforts and admissions processes as needed.Â
- May coordinate summer intern program.Â
- Provides data and content for the PME annual report.Â
- Recommends process improvements for programs that relate to critical student-life improvement, including emergency management, accommodations for students with disabilities, and/or the administration of health care services and programs for students.
- Solves problems in areas such as academic and administrative policy, student admissions, curriculum research and development, and budget development. Advises various campus-wide and program committees in various aspects of student life.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
- Experience in administration or related job experience, preferably in a higher education research environment.
- Relevant experience in student affairs or a closely related area.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of SLATE, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Knowledge of admissions and financial aid procedures.
- Expertise in data management and analysis.
- Project Management skills.

- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with absolute discretion.
- Ability to maintain calm and courteous demeanor and to work productively despite heavy workload, competing priorities, complex problems, and tight deadlines.
