This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite on campus and remote.
This is a 75% position. The selected candidate will work around 30 hours per week.
The new Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to health and social equity and has over 80 primary salaried faculty, 25 secondary faculty, 200+ personnel, 200 postgraduate students, and 550 undergraduate majors. The School includes activities in the Public Health disciplines of Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Policy, Health Equity, Public Mental Health, and Environmental and Climate Health. The School administers two PhD programs (Public Health and Biostatistics), a Master of Public Health professional degree program, an MS in Biostatistics, the only Health Sciences undergraduate program (BSPH), an MAS in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations run in conjunction with UCSD Extension, and a Preventive Medicine residency program.
The School has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Research Centers of Excellence focused on Wireless and Population Health Systems, Health Promotion and Equity, Women's Health, and Tobacco Control, and has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, Jacobs School of Engineering, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Moores Cancer Center, the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School. The School houses five recharge cores providing services to UCSD and external customers, and the School's faculty and academics hold ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts.
Under general direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) and Research Program Manager, incumbent is responsible for coordinating all aspects of data collection for multiple studies in the areas of nutrition, chronic disease prevention, and public health. Responsibilities include various aspects of data collection and study coordination to ensure the overall continued success of research projects. Incumbent is responsible for facilitating a positive participant study experience consistent with the study protocol; organizing schedules for participant virtual visits and in-person visits to study clinic; obtaining informed consent; completing interviewer-administered surveys; managing the transport, storage, and distribution of study meals; overseeing data and biospecimen collection; and processing specimens per specifications for analysis and storage. Incumbent also maintains participant files; creates participant reports and abnormal lab value notifications; track study participation; attend regular study meetings with study staff, clinician, and investigators; and create and present weekly reports of participants' status, adherence to study meals, and any issues that may threaten study participation.
Theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of public health, nutrition, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience conducting subject recruitment including obtaining informed consent, interviewing, and maintaining confidentiality.
Experience with research and project coordination on social and/or behavioral science research studies in the areas of nutrition, epidemiology, and health equity.
Demonstrated experience in research data collection and quality control.
Experience with specimen collection, laboratory procedures and values, and experience interpreting them to determine patient eligibility.
Experience with data entry. Knowledge of database, word processing and spreadsheet applications such as REDCap, MS Word, Excel, and Access.
Strong written (using correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation), verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility. Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups, including co-workers, supervisor, investigators, collaborators, and study participants.
