The Department of Statistics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is searches for a Career Service Advisor who will prepare Statistics graduate and undergraduate students for the professional workplace by introducing students to career search processes and strategies. The advisor will also guide students through all aspects of career development including self-assessment, explorations and experience decision-making and implementation; coach students for successful entry into the workplace through understanding in and experience with key career readiness competencies; and collaborates within the department and across campus on employer relations to establish recruitment pipelines, and assists in building and managing our network of alumni to strengthen opportunities for Statistics students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Career Advising & Workshops
- Provide professional career advising to students in the Department of Statistics through individual meetings and workshops on topics such as career preparation and search strategies, resume reviews, mock interviews, job offers and negotiations.
- Coach students to identify and develop professional skills through class projects, student organizations involvement, leadership roles and other involvement.
- Educate and provide direction to students regarding professional work opportunities and employment trends. Communicate employment information and training to students.
- Deliver career preparation strategies through a variety of channels such as classroom presentations, departmental events, workshops and networking opportunities.
- Assist in collecting internship and full-time employment data and in preparation of semester reports.
- Utilize and support career related technologies.
Employer Relations & Support
- Advise employers on recruiting strategies, processes and outcomes.
- Coordinate career events such as career forums, receptions, resources and speaker programs.
- Help employers with use of career management platform for posting jobs, events and other student engagement opportunities.
- In collaboration with career services and corporate relations offices on campus, cultivate and foster new employer relationships to generate job and internship opportunities.
Departmental Responsibilities and Duties
- Work with marketing/communication to develop career education and instruction materials, workshops, and programs for Statistics students, student organizations, and departments focused on communicating employment information to students by collaborating with the College, Career Center, CSC, etc
- Collaborate with marketing/communications to develop and update career website; promote career related events and information on social media; develop section of e-newsletter dedicated to career services and employer relations
- Coordinate with marketing/communications to communicate upcoming career related activities to student and employers
- Collaborate with the College and campus-wide career service community on special projects related to Career development and advising. Maintain a professional, service-oriented environment for students and company representatives.
- Organize and manage special projects to further the mission of the unit.
- Collaborate with Alumni Relations Committee to maintain records of alumni and keep communication lines open while further building the department network
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- One year of professional work experience in recruiting, human resources, career services, or academic advising in a collegiate environment
Preferred:
- Master's degree
- Experience in career advising.
- Experience working with diverse students, including international students.
- Experience with advising or career services in STEM field
Successful candidates will have the following:
- Knowledge of job market for college students and STEM disciplines.
- Knowledge of career assessment tools.
- Highly proficient with web-based resources, software (Microsoft Suite) and social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc).
- Strong organizational, time management, communication, presentation and project management skills.
- Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences.
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Salary and Appointment Information:
This is a full-time Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after June 17, 2022. Salary is commensurate with experience.
