The Assistant Director of Student Leadership & Engagement for Fraternity & Sorority Life is responsible for supporting the mission of the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE), the Division of Student Affairs, and Hofstra University by providing support and leadership to the undergraduate student organizations, as well as the fraternity and sorority community. The Assistant Director will serve as a resource for chapter presidents, faculty/staff advisors, alumni, parents, national representatives, and the university community regarding fraternity and sorority life. The position will provide advising and guidance to councils, consortiums, and chapters. In addition, the position will serve as a main point of contact for Get Involved HU, the university student engagement portal. The Assistant Director will also directly supervise a Graduate Assistant. The position will be responsible for curriculum development and facilitation of leadership education programming as part of the Emerging Greek Leaders series, as well as student organization training. Specifically, the position will be responsible for enhancing community practices through a lens of inclusion, equity, and ethical decision making.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: â€¢Manages the University's social and pre-professional Greek letter fraternity and sorority system. â€¢Maintains the positive position of the Fraternity and Sorority Life community by ensuring their understanding and compliance with all University policies, as well as municipal, state, and federal laws by providing the appropriate resources and training. â€¢Works with organizations and national chapters to maintain accurate records of Greek membership and participation on and off campus. â€¢Designs and implements assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services offered to the student organizations and the FSL community by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement. â€¢Advises and provides leadership to fraternity and sorority councils on campus. â€¢Develops annual operating budget and ensure that University resources are efficiently, ethically, and effectively utilized. â€¢Monitors and maintains budgetary controls and accountability. â€¢Creates and executes initiatives around hazing prevention, sexual violence, new member education, identity and inclusion, and other topics as determined. â€¢Serves as a liaison to national offices, regional and on campus advisors. â€¢Remains current with national trends and represents Hofstra at conferences. â€¢Collaborates with OSLE in the implementation of campus wide programs and traditions. â€¢Exercises judgment and independent initiatives. â€¢Handles time-sensitive matters that require concise problem-solving and a high degree of confidentiality. â€¢Serves as an active member of the Administrative Conduct Board for the Office of Community Standards including all required training. â€¢Serves on university committees as assigned. â€¢Attends all applicable training sessions. â€¢Assists in all aspects of office operations, including contributions to strategic planning and assessment efforts. â€¢Performs other related duties as assigned.
