Georgetown Climate Center (GCC) seeks to advance effective climate and energy policies in the United States and serves as a resource to state and local communities that are working to cut carbon pollution and prepare for climate change.
Job OverviewThe
Director of Business Operations is responsible for leading all business and operational decisions, processes, and staff for the Climate Center - including but not limited to day to day oversight and management of all financial, operational and administrative needs for the GCC. They engage regularly with foundation program officers and other funder representatives during proposal development, grant implementation and reporting; and engage with state, local, and federal government officials with whom the Center is working.
The Director serves as the Center's primary liaison to Law Center and University business departments, as well as IST and HR; and serves as a member of GCC's senior leadership team and participates in the development of Center strategic planning, leads operational planning, and advises the program management team on staff management, development and training.
They also provide strategic leadership and direction to all aspects of GCC's business operations, including human resource management, fiscal management, operations, and strategic planning, while ensuring accurate financial and grant management and reporting to funders.
Work InteractionsReporting to the GCC Executive Director, the
Director of Business Operations serves as a key member of the senior leadership team, including weekly Directors' meetings. They interact externally with leadership of senior state, federal, and local officials; foundation program officers and donor advisors; and consultants, contractors, and vendors.
They handle confidential and sensitive information, including salary and HR information; represent GCC in discussions with senior university officials, including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Audit Executive, ORS Senior Director, and SPFO Senior Director; and frequently interact with faculty, executives, students, and other business officers.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree - preferably in Business, Accounting, or Finance
- 7 to 10 years of financial experience
- Experience working in a higher education setting
- Experience with Workday
- High level of experience with Excel
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred qualifications- Master's degree or equivalent experience
- Human resources experience
- Program management experience
