POSITION DETAILS
The Financial Aid Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Lehman College. The position is responsible for the CUNY Title Overview duties in addition to the following:
- Advise continuing and prospective students on financing their education at Lehman College.
- Verify and reconcile students' eligibility for financial aid programs (federal, state, institutional, and
private).
- Assist undergraduate and graduate students with their financial aid processing. Notify students of
missing information or documents.
- Ensure compliance with Federal, New York State and College financial aid regulations and policies.
- Provide front counter coverage of office???s reception area and answer office phones.
- Accept financial aid related documents, greet visitors, answer inquiries, and explain procedures and policies.
- Review, update, and input financial aid information in CUNYfirst and internal systems databases as well as external sites including but not limited to COD, CPS, and NSLDS.
- Coordinate, verify, and resolve problems regarding the disbursement of scholarships and grants by
verifying student eligibility.
- Coordinate administrative support services.
Position requires some evening hours and occasional weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree is required.
- Working knowledge of federal Title IV and NYS financial aid regulations, practices, and resources
Preferred
- Working knowledge of automated data base systems (preferably CUNYfirst or similar)
- Two years financial aid or related experience preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred
The ability to communicate in writing is an important job-related competency. All candidates will draft a writing sample as part of the interview process to demonstrate their ability to write memos and letters that are grammatically correct and express information clearly.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Coordinates financial aid procedures and activities and provides financial aid information.
- Schedules workshops, reviews applications, establishes pay cycles, disburses funds and resolves disbursement problems, and records awards, disbursements and returns
- Coordinates, verifies and resolves problems regarding the disbursement of scholarships and grants by verifying student eligibility, establishing pay cycles and reviewing pay-outs
- Reconciles accounting and disbursement schedules
- Provides data for financial aid and donor reports as needed
- Supports the College's enrollment management efforts by providing financial aid information to prospective students, their families and their high school counselors
- Serves as liaison between the college and direct loan providers
- Performs related duties as assigned.
