We seek a postdoctoral research fellow in mathematics education at the GRIP Lab, University of Michigan School of Education. We are looking for an individual who is ambitious, hard-working, and self-motivated for intellectual work, who will see the postdoctoral position as an opportunity to hone research and development skills toward a professional career in research on mathematics education. We hope to find an individual who is committed to scholarship that advances the growth of knowledge for the public good and somebody who can contribute to, as well as benefit from, the lab culture of the GRIP, a research group with more than 20 years of continued existence (www.gripumich.org).
The successful applicant needs to be eager to work collaboratively, able to work on our Ann Arbor campus and to travel as needed, able to maintain simultaneous attention to a variety of tasks, and amenable to taking initiative as well as responding positively to direction. Working knowledge of multiple methodologies is a plus, while disposition to learn new methods is an expectation. We are especially interested in scholars with substantial interests in understanding the work of, and knowledge involved in, teaching high school algebra and geometry.
The appointment will be for one year, with an expectation to stay for two years, and a potential for annual renewal for up to 3 years total. The desired start date will be August 29, 2022, or soon after.
Work under the mentorship of Dr. Patricio Herbst and Dr. Amanda Brown to perform scholarly research.
Supervise work of undergraduate students and collaborate with graduate students.
Develop and collaborate in manuscripts for publication.
Present work in progress to the research collaborators.
Support efforts in data management and data archiving
The successful applicant will have a PhD (by start time of position) in Mathematics Education or related field, from an accredited university. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work both in a team environment and independently are required.
Strong candidates will have broader knowledge of the literature on research on teaching and teacher knowledge and experience teaching high school mathematics.
