The Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) San Diego is looking for the best, brightest and most adventurous clinical counselors to join our team as Deployed Resiliency Counselors (DRC). The DRC will serve as a credentialed clinical counselor aboard a Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier (CVN). The DRC is assigned to a ship and provides support services to deployed forces both in port, or at sea.  When that ship sets sail, whether a two-week “underway” or a 7-10 month deployment, the DRC is on it! The DRC is a critical link in the command support chain and considered “essential” by Commanding Officers for every deployment.  The DRC is given many opportunities to work alongside other command leaders to care for the crew. This is your chance to experience the adventures of life on the high seas and travel to various ports throughout the Pacific Rim.

The incumbent shall be Tier III qualified as outlined by SECNAVINST 1754.7A, Navy FFSP Credentials Review and Clinical Privileging requirements and must possess:

Successful candidates for this position shall meet all qualifications as outlined in the current SECNAVINST 1754.7A:

• The Clinical Practitioner must meet the following requirements:

1. State or U.S. territory, license, or certification that provides legal authority to provide clinical services as independent practitioner.
2. When the state or U.S. territory licensing or certification requirements include a written examination, candidates for privileging must have achieved a passing score on that examination.

• Possess at least a master’s degree in one of the following clinical fields:

1. Marriage and Family Therapy from a program accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or an equivalent degree.
2. Social Work from an accredited school or an equivalent degree.
3. Psychology from a doctoral program approved by APA or an equivalent degree.

• Must have engaged in 2 years, that includes at least 2000 hours, full-time, post-licensure clinical experience.

• Shall have two years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse. This requirement may occur during any time after the incumbent is licensed to provide services as an independent practitioner.

• Knowledge of military language, customs, and culture to include navigating shipboard dynamics.
  
  
• Independent clinical skills and sound judgment necessary to provide assessment, triage, referral and case management of clients presenting with a risk of harm to themselves or others, domestic violence, and child abuse.
  
  
• Ability to communicate in writing to develop and prepare case management documentation, psycho-social assessments, treatment plans, correspondence, and reports.
  
  
• Ability to intervene in crises, using sound professional judgment, ethical practice, and common sense.
  
  
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively communicate with military and civilian medical, social services, law enforcement, and legal personnel.
  
  
• Ability to adapt to changing work conditions, frequent interruptions, and pressures of short deadlines.

• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).

Position has been designated Non-Critical Sensitive.  As a position of trust and ITII position, continued employment is conditional on the successful completion of an Access National Agency Check (ANACI) that contains no convictions of sexual assault or domestic violence. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

Must successfully complete Defense Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP) within six months of hire, and maintain D-SAACP certification throughout employment.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Due to the unique nature of the position, selectees will be required to complete a physical examination upon entry to duty, and annually thereafter, and be determined to be physical fit for shipboard duty at all times. 

Due to worldwide travel, all required vaccinations as a condition of employment per DoD requirements.

The incumbent must apply for and maintain a US No-Fee Passport upon employment.

The incumbent will be required to deploy at sea on board US Navy ships. Deployment lengths will vary from a few days to over 10 months at a time. The incumbent will receive a deployment differential of 20% of his/her salary while deployed. Regions may approve additional compensatory time-off based on a sliding scale depending on length of deployment.  The work schedule while deployed will vary depending on requirements. The incumbent will be on call 24 hours a day while deployed for crisis intervention situations.

At sea, the incumbent shares a stateroom in officer berthing; meals are obtained by joining the Officers' Mess as a paying member, and meals are purchased by monthly billing.

This position is mission essential.  The incumbent may be required to travel, deploy, or provide services at homeport during a variety of crises and disasters, including serving during times of world conflict, natural disasters, accidents, man-made crises, and other situations as an extension of the FFSC mass care and crisis response program.
