Regionally located in Southern California (LA, San Diego, Orange County). The Admissions Counselor is a highly motivated, focused, and results-oriented regional Admissions Counsel. This position will represent the University of Minnesota to prospective students, prospective student families, and high school officials in the Southern California (SoCA) metro area and other targeted states of the U.S., while providing customer service to prospective students from a variety of geographical locations and identities, including racial and ethnic backgrounds.This position will recruit from and be based in Southern California.
This is a full-time, P&A, non-exempt position. Salary range is $66,000 - $76,000 depending on qualifications. This includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, 22 PTO days, one personal holiday in addition to the existing 11 University holidays.
JOB DUTIES:
Independently design and execute a recruitment plan that is tailored to the territory of Southern California (SOCA).
Decide, plan, and execute a college recruitment management plan that applies an effective mix of in-person recruitment, over-the-phone communication, and other methods of relationship-building.
Monitor student behavioral trends and identify responses or changes to recruitment plan based on those trends.
Responsible for maintaining and growing visits, applications, and other key enrollment indicators in SOCA territory.
Exercise significant discretion and independent judgment in developing and modifying travel schedules during the admissions year to meet the University’s admissions goals.
Stakeholder management is a key component of territory/college management. Build and manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including prospective students, parents, high school counselors, community leaders, secondary school teachers, and administrators.
Provide individual advising and admissions counseling to students and families. Explain and/or interpret University admissions policies and procedures.
Provide assistance and answer questions in person, via phone or via email, regarding admissions requirements, academic programs, and student life.
Respond and communicate via escalated calls and situations with students or parents/guardians who are concerned with an admissions decision.
Perform application review and evaluate academic and other credentials for admission decision and counseling purposes.
Proactively recruit top students to the University of Minnesota, and represent the University at high school and community presentations and college fairs in SOCA, exploring national growth in secondary territories, and support national recruitment throughout the country as needed/ requested by national members and direct manager.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS degree with at least four years of related work experience.
Must have a valid driver's license; must be able to travel for extended periods and to work evenings/weekends and some holidays as needed.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking experience.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity.

Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate recruiting plans.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and use data to guide work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference given to University of Minnesota graduates.
Experience working in regionally-based or remote positions.
