Responsibilities This position is responsible for technical and clinical supervision of the pediatric and fetal cardiac echo laboratory. Managing pediatric echo sonographers with daily operations, staff development and recruitment. Coordinating sta for daily scheduled assignments, including outreach and 24/7 on-call schedules (weekly, holiday, weekend call). Reviewing and coordinating Glassrock and outreach clinic echo schedules. Training and supervision of personnel in advanced echocardiography techniques. Assisting in special procedures cath lab, OR transesophageal echo and complex congenital heart disease (fetal, neonatal, surgical). Administrator of the pediatric echo server (Syngodynamics). Liaison to cardiac IT regarding technical support to in-house and outreach pediatric echo. Serving as technical advisor and educator to pediatric outreach sites. Technical director for Intersocietal Accreditation (IAC) establishing standards / protocols for the pediatric and fetal echo laboratory working under the direction of the Pediatric Echo Medical Director. The incumbent will function as a member of the pediatric heart center management team, and is responsible to assure that all operations are in compliance with budgetary as well as regulatory agency and health system requirements and standards. They are responsible to effectively promote public service, clinical teaching and research missions of the UC Davis Health System / Pediatric Heart Center.
Will supervise: SR Ultrasound Techs and 2 SR Ultrasound Techs Per Diem
Required Qualifications Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
- Current registration as a pediatric cardiac sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Credentialing International (CCI), in Pediatric, Adult and Fetal Echo Specialties.
- 5 - 7 years of recent experience in an acute pediatric care setting
- Prior lead or supervisory experience required
- Advanced pediatric and fetal echo sonography skills.
- Demonstrates subject matter knowledge of relevant cardiovascular services. Ability to apply principles to procedures in an acute care setting
- Demonstrated supervisory skills in training and guiding employees. Ability to motivate and inspire staff to improve cardiovascular services.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment
- Advanced clinical skills and knowledge of the pathophysiology, symptoms, and surgical corrections in congenital heart disease in pediatric and fetal echocardiography.
- Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with assigned staff, patients, and interdisciplinary team members part of the cardiovascular patient care.
- Working knowledge of the techniques, indications for and complications of all major non-invasive cardiology procedures, including fetal and transesophageal echocardiography.
- Verbal and written communication skills necessary to train technical staff in complex heart disease, instruct patients and communicate effectively with medical staff individual or group sessions.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively participate in organizational problem solving, staff performance evaluations, and conflict resolution within multidisciplinary work force environment.
- Organizational skills necessary to initiate and manage organizational restructuring and redesigns projects in a professional manner.
- Ability to analyze staffing patterns and workloads to ensure appropriate staffing to meet patient care and program standards.
- Skills to oversee the maintenance of ultrasound machines, orders, and replacement supplies, and to identify and report clinical equipment problems. Skill to interfaces with vendors for equipment evaluations (demos), training and upgrades.
- Familiarity with JCAHO, and UCDMC policy requirements.
Preferred Qualifications - A bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography or in a related area and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 2-3 years prior lead or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Special Requirements - Current registration as a pediatric cardiac sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Credentialing International (CCI), in Pediatric, Adult and Fetal Echo Specialties.
- This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
